Opening Head Light

Post by Ls1jorge »

Ok Genvibe Members I'm temping to do this 1st at my own Risk, just need a few answers before doing this, & Pics will be posted up soon after I finish it, I've been wanting to open up my head lights & paint the inside Chrome Housing black & the side reflector black as well more of a cleaner look is what I'm going for, I thought about the decal over the side headlight but I've been wanting to do this for along time. I've seen YouTube videos on Howto but they are mostly using all Aftermarket Head lights, do you suggest following the same process? My main concerns are.....1st- how would I open the headlight? 2nd- what could I reseal (close them) with far as water or anything thing getting inside, & not wanting the glue or whatever to crack apart the healight trim & the clear lens?? Thank George

Talk to Keithvibe, he's probably an expert at opening headlights due to his projector projects.

I did a how to install Morimoto HID projectors in the inside forum. basically u bake the entire headlight for 10 min or so at 200deg, and u can pry open the headlight with ease, to seal back same thing, heat and clamp it shut. mine remained weatherproof after install. theres lots of pics on my post.

Sucks I have to wait, was everything Plug & Play for the Projector Swap? For now I just want to open up my headlights & paint the chrome Housing black so I have a few black details on the front of the car, how long you been having those on your car? Have you had any issues in the past? Would you mind selling me ur headlights lol jk man!

lol, well i did the how to only like a month ago so thats how long it has been on my car. theretrofitstore parts are much better quality than the other ones ive looked at. this mod can be done super cheap if u use cheap parts.. like the ebay Gen1 and Gen3 projectors. they can be had for 140 shipped for projectors, shrouds, bulbs. and if you already had PNP hid kits u can reuse that harness, and ballasts.. I paid twice that, but I wanted more quality parts. I know even the cheap projectors are superior than PNP because they will not blind anyone. will look just as nice, the down side is the cut off line / beam output. Different lenses give different outcome. Ill try to take some pics and post it on that how to.

Nice man! I'll try this sometime next year, & stick with Hids for now, more likely I'll use the same set up as urs since it's a great How to, how long it took you to remove both headlights apart?Did you put them in the oven both at once? Or one at a time?Well this im Sunday looking to find time To be doing this mod i cant wait I hate the way the stock head lights look.Blanco_Diablo- I'll ask Kiethvibe about what spray paint he used, & see what he says, Thanks Man!

well its plug and play really, u just have to open the headlight.. my oven is big enough for one headlight at a time. second one took me 1.5 hrs or so from removal back to install... i think if the bumper was off, its less than a hr job. the guys from theretrofitstore says, they have new models coming out.. better than the ones i bought lol I have to do it on my parents ford Edge and F150 so will buy 2 more sets... I drove a mazda today with PNP HID, and u know in a rural area, u see better with them.. cause of all the dispersion / refraction it lights up alot more than my Projectors... but u also blind the oncoming, and blind ur self in snow or fog too... guess there is always a trade off.. with my PNP HID, i never really had a need for HI beams.. with the projectors, I use it when I can..

I don't expect to see it produced for quite awhile. I have seen what they will look like and yes, if they are produced they will rock the retrofit world.I am currently working with TRS on a new wire harness as well. Got a test harness set up and working 100%, just need to get it produced now.Everyone seems very happy with the h1,d2s, and the fxr projectors atm. Serious, how wide of a road do you guys drive on, the h1 already will light up a four lane highway LOLLs1jorge being this is going to be the first time you do it, it will take you a long time I would start on Saturday and plan for the entire weekend. If you have an oven that is large enough to fit both headlights, MY GOD you have a very large oven!
