Non-GT 2009 2.4L Clutch

Post by Bdig »

Just lost the clutch in my 2009 non-GT 2.4L Vibe. Does anyone know where I can purchase a clutch kit? I have checked many sites and can't find one. If I posted this in the wrong place or if this has already been covered I apoligize. I searched the forums and could not find anything.

2011 Centreforce catalogue only has them to 2008, but they may have it now - give them a call or send an email. Not easy but a clutch can be easily be grenaded in under 10K... I'm assuming the question is being asked because the dealer has had a look at it already and are shaking their heads?

Check your warranty. It might be covered under the 5 year/100k powertrain.

18,000 miles on it. The dealer wants to charge around $1,500.

I would think so, but you would need to dig a little deeper to know for sure. Try and continue your search using the Matrix as the car in question and you'll probably get better results.

We should easily see 100,000+ miles before any sign of trouble. Somebody must have been riding the clutch on a regular basis to damage it so soon. When you do get this work performed, try to have them diagnose exactly what caused this damage so soon. Defective factory parts ??? Improper adjustment or installation from the factory??? Was this just purchased as a "used car" and the previous owner beat the crap out of it??? I'd really be curious as to what you find out

We purchased the car new and my wife and daughter drive it. I was rasied around heavy equipment and have been driving stick shifts for years. They both drive very well. The dealer immediatly blamed them as being at fault, Montrose in Hermitage, PA. This same dealer also told us the Vibe needed lined-up at 13,000 miles. I took it to an independant shop that said it was in perfect alignment .

Yeah but, unless you examine the clutch material for signs of it being burnt then how can they blame poor driving? Seems premature of course but again - you can kill one easily in 10K with bad habits on the clutch. Maybe you can save 3-4 hundred elsewhere but until the dealer takes that unit out for examination there is no way to tell exactly whats failed ( I assume it doesn't move anymore or slips? )A number of other things could be at fault. In which case, they may re-examine that price and might even split the difference or something. Don't discount them yet - have this discussion and if they are not willing to consider it ask for a Regional Manager to attend and investigate this component failure when it comes out. I've had to go this route witih Chrylser on a Transmission before, eventually worked out, the Regional Inspector called it as bad gears off production and trans was replaced in my new truck at 10K. They gotta take a look first before they assume you abused it.

After the car was at the dealer for a day I stopped in to pickup the car today and let them know an independent shop was going to complete the repair. Within 10 minutes they offered to have GM pickup 100% of the cost. They even called my wife to apologize.

Awesome Sounds like they doscovered a defect or factory problem where the repair can be justified under warranty. Let all of us know here @ GenVibe EXACTLY what they found and how it happened if possible. I have the same 2.4L manual as you and am extremely curious as to what they found.
