2003 Pontiac Vibe Passenger Seat Belt Connector Broken

Post by g516 »

First, i would like to say I am very impressed with the knowledge base from people contributing to this forum. With that said, I am having an issue with my 2003 Vibe. It seems the metal connectors broke where they plug into the seatbelt retractor assembly (from a yellow plastic connector). The wires are yellow and yellow/black. They broke off and the airbaig light started flashing on the dash. What kind of electrical connectors are they, and Where casn I buy a replacement connector to replace the broken connectors? Thanks in advance!

Without looking, I would wager that they are the pretensioners for the seat belts. They're part of the SRS, which is causing your airbag light.Try your local autoparts store, but you'll probably have to go to the dealership. If you have a decent junkyard around, you might try finding one there. This is just my opinion, someone with the service manuals may have a better idea of what it is.

YOU ARE CORRECT. THEY ARE THE PRETENSIONERS. I HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUES TRYING TO IDENTIFY THEM USING THE WEB. ALL I NEED TO KNOW IS WHICH ONES TO BUY, AND SINCE THE DEALER HAS A REPUTATION OF BEING MONEY HUNGRY, I WANT TO AVOID THIM IF POSSIBLE. THANKS FOR THE INFO

Sadly, that may be a dealer only part.Things like that tend to change year to year, even within the same make and model due to safety updates. And yes, dealerships are VERY money hungry, but they tend to sell factory replacement parts vs. OEM aftermarket. When it comes to safety items, I stick with the dealership. Yes it costs a bit more, but you get parts that would've been installed at the factory.

My passenger seat belt Pretensioner on my '03 died two weeks ago. I just had my mechanic replace it yesterday. I was in a small town in SW Ontario when it happened, and the local dealer there said it would be 5 days for the part to come in. Came up to Ottawa, was told the same thing, and it ended up taking 8 days to come in.All good now.
