Maintenance procedues

Post by thorp »

Hi everyone. I have a 2010 1.8L Vibe. Does anyone know where I can get a resonably priced service manual? $150 is too much. I could probably get a manual for a 2003 - 2008 model, but I hear there's a lot of differences. Aslo, is there anywhere I can plug in my VIN and get all the particulars about the suspension, mechanical and engine data? Thanks in advance fro any help.Brad

The $150.00 three volume service manual is big with a lot of drawings and tables, and, step by step instructions of how to take things apart. This set is the best source to remove the plastic parts. There are no photographs of anything, just drawings. So you must be able to read between the lines. And they are small drawings to make viewing even worst. But if I was going to take the car apart, I would recommend buying the set. I heard (and I maybe wrong) that because they stop making all Pontiacs, the after market service book maker will not print them. However, they may write one for the Matrix. goto http://www.helm.com for the Service manual.I would not purchase the old model Vibe manual, the new Vibe are totally different from bumper to bumper and new engines. One more thing about this service manual, for example, to do an oil change and filter change, it was never clear from the drawings where the oil filter was on the on the 2.4L engine. I never could see where it was until I jacked the front of the car two years after I bought it. But there was behind the front bumper and black plastic cover. And I thought it was near the firewall like it was on a 1980 Corrolla. The 1.8L engine has a plastic oil can with a removable paper filter inside. ]Hi everyone. I have a 2010 1.8L Vibe. The car is too new. No one is working on them except for dealers for they are all under warranty. You won't see an after market manual on that car for probably 4 - 6 years if it follows the path of history. You were able to plunk down what? at least $15,000 probably more for a car but you won't spend $150 to properly maintain it?!?!? Me thinks you need to sit down and do some rethinking.Plus any after market manual will only be 1/2 as good as the proper factory manual. Chiltons, Clymer, etc, they are all at best just poorly written guides. Just bite the bullet and do it. Give up Starbucks for a week or so, I made the purchase for my 07, I knew that I distrust mechanics and repair shops but want the work done properly, no regrets about the purchase at all. Honestly I haven't needed them for much but it is comforting to know that I've got all the information I could ever need on the shelf.Dave
