So much as the title says I'm going to be approaching 200k soon, and there is some much neglected work I didn't do prior to this winter! I've set aside some money and am gearing up to keep my vibe running for quite some time hopefully! SO I'm hoping some of you other vibe owners with 250+ can chime in and tell me what you've done, and what I should expect! Currently I'm around 170-180, and I have a 2003 base model automatic. Recently I've replaced my spark plugs, air filter, starter (old one died, think it was original), and the in cab air filter!I'm due in for an oil change I've been using amsoil' 5w-30 pretty much since I've purchased the car. So far a list of things I'm looking at doing are:PCV valve replacementReplace cats and o2 sensorsclean MAS Replace speakers (one of the rear ones rattles)Service the rear brakesI just bought some michelin energy saver tires for some 15' rimsThe suspension is in need of replacement, ball joins, tie rods, struts, you name itintake manifold gasket, as well as other various gaskets for oil pan and such-Valve clearance check???I'm not sure if the timing belt should be replaced at this point or not, but thats one consideration.I have fairly good mechanical skills and will be doing all the wrenching myself, I'm not sure what all I'm missing, but I want to make sure my engine is good and safe before I drop my money into suspension parts. Everything sounds pretty good, except I think maybe the exhaust heat shield or something is lose, cause around 3-4k rpm I get a odd buzzing raspy buzzing noise. I believe my air conditioner compressor went, as its winter I haven't messed with this much, but I'm thinking it may be the clutch? Well it might not be a bad idea just to replace it with as many miles I have. Other than that it runs pretty good and I get anywhere from 28 to 34 mpg (28 winter, 34 highway driving slow in the summer). Well any help would be appreciated, I've been trolling around the forums and have already found a lot of helpful posts!Lastly I have a list of engine codes, mostly doing with the o2 and cat, I haven't had it scanned lately, but I plan getting a code reader and making sure nothing more serious has popped up. But every now and then when its cold out and I fill up my tank with fuel, when I go to start the car it will take quite a while before it turns over, and even then it will want to stall out, as it idles very poorly.. I'm guessing this has to do with the 02 sensor problem getting worst???Well thanks for any advice in advance!
If I remember correctly, the 03's had the Toyota 1.8L 1zz-Fe, right? Those guys have a timing chain that shouldn't ever need to be replaced, but the guides and runners might if you drive it hard.Grats on hitting 200k, and here's to 200k more
Thanks, ya I wasn't sure about the timing, chain, guess when I go to check my clearances and replaces my head gasket I will check, I'm sure it will look good! Thanks though!
valve clearances are easy to check, involved to adjust. I wouldn't bother replacing the head gasket unless it was blown, but that's mehopefully you've changed the tranny fluid and engine coolant at least once by now
I bought tranny fluid and haven't changed it yet.. Its probably due in for it, I've checked it several times though and it seems to be very clean looking and always at the proper level, I'm guessing the previous owner had changed it out at one point.. Oops and I'm pretty sure I meant the valve cover gasket, as I'm starting to see a few drops of oil working its way to the plugs. I will have to do the valve check soon as soon as it warms up outside!
