Hey everyone, new member here, great site. Thought I would help out with what I discovered as a solution to a problem with my Vibe. Quick vehicle history. I just bought a 2005 base Vibe a month ago with 52,000 miles. The night I drove it home the check engine light came on and was running rough at idle. The vehicle would start up and idle at 1600 rpms when cold. I did a complete tune up, which never hurts and put a scan tool on it, engine code came back placing blame toward an oxygen sensor reading a lean fuel mixture. I forgot to write the code down, I believe it was P0171, sorry if I got that wrong. Anyway, a past auto technician by trade, I went right to the intake manifold gasket as the culprit, a whopping $4 rubber gasket at Autozone. It took 20 minutes to change. The gasket was very brittle and fell apart in my hands upon removal. Check engine light went out and the vehicle is running great. I love the awesome fuel economy. I chose this model of vehicle due to having never wrenching on one ever in any garage I worked at and the great reviews. Now if I can keep my wife in her brand new Caravan I bought her and leave my Vibe alone! She wants to sell her van and get a Vibe! Can't blame her. Well enough blab for now. Hope this will help anyone with the same problem.
Same here with my 05 Vibe, before the PCM is replaced (the recall, in case you didn't pay attention). The code was P0172. If you google it, you'll see that the most common misdiagnosis is to suspect the O2 sensor. One must verify that the MAF (mass air flow) sensor is clean. The MAF on my Vibe wasn't clean. But, after I cleaned it, the check-engine light still comes back and I still have idle issue (rough when hot). After the PCM is replaced, I don't have rough idle any more ...
Havn't tried the intake gasket, but have changed out the O2 sensors , that eliminated the lean code but I have had issue with this from brand new with surge at cold start and now has 127,000 and I'm getting a misfire across all 4 cylinders , have replaced to ecm due to dealership not being able to read the live feed, which after doing that all they could tell me was it was only misfiring at idle and the down stream o2 was dead not sending anything to the front 02 sensor so I changed them both did improve running eliminating the lean code but nothing on the misfire, Still have the misfire across all 4 cylinders. Any suggestions? it's a 2003 base model vibe 1 zz engine, have tried a new idle air motor for surge as well as the temp sensor , cam sensor ,new plugs , new coil packs which made things worse for some reason thinking I got some wrong coil packs ,have sprayed the mass airflow sensor with cleaner. getting a lil frustrated.
