DRL & HID

Post by MotoAce51 »

Ok this was odd. I follow the site and see all the posts about installing HID's. It says disable the DRL because they run at a reduced power. Anyways, my 04 didnt seem to have DRL's. The headlights were never on until the sensor tripped. I got around to installing the HID's yesterday and all went well. But now it seems like my DRL's work? I noticed the headlights on all the time. Why do the DRL's work now that I installed HID's and not before with the Halogen bulbs?

The DRLs can be hard to notice with regular bulbs. They shine no light, and are just illuminated. You probably didn't notice them at all. But to disable them is easy. Just get under the drivers side dash, find the DRL box, and snip wire 12. It's a red wire with a white stripe.

I know for mine I used a relay harness and the drl current isn't enough to open the relay. I like it better so that if I ever sell it and they want stock bulbs the original functionality is there.

The DRL's were probably working unless a previous owner disabled them.
