2008 Vibe Main Gauge Cluster Brightness vs rest of dash items

Has anyone modified their interior dash lighting so that only the main gague cluster gets dimmed, and not anything else? The white backlite gauges are too bright. When turned down a bit, all of the other items are almost off. The HVAC controls, the shifter position, the radio, etc need to be tied to 12vdc directly and not through the dimmer, in my opinion.
