1zz Intake manifold gasket problem! HELPPP PLEASE

Post by ktt88 »

Hey everyone, I'm in need of help asap!I just finished replacing the intake gasket on my 1zz vibe today, after installing I started it up and it ran very rough (like it was misfiring). It was also idling very low (around 700-800).Shut it down and double checked I connected all vacuum and water lines, I did.Started it again and it had the same symptoms.Shut it off and I disconnected the battery for a few minutes, and triple checked all the connectionsNow it wont even start, I dont know what to do, please help!

Could be a vacuum leak. If you are able to get her started back up, spray some carb cleaner along the edges, anywhere there is a gasket/seal (between the block and manifold, throttle body etc.) If your idle smooths out you found the leak. also re-check all vacumm lines, hoses to make sure they are properly plumbed...just a thought. Good luck.

a week ago I replaced my intake maifold gasket and had the same trouble. I had forgotten to hook up one of the hoses. On my 03, there were three vacuum hoses, one from the PCV valve, another to somewhere up front on the valve cover, and a third smaller one on top near the block that ran back to some gizmo behind the air filter box. It was this last, the small one I missed, and couldn't see where it went (or the loose hose end) with the plastic engine cover installed. Wish yours is as simple a fix, sounds like you've already checked for loose hoses, so when you do find out the problem, let us know what the solution was.

mine's doin it too. all i did was switch the intake...now i have this problem. I bought a new MAF sensor ($80) and it didn't fix it.I guess tomorrow i'll quadruple check all the hoses. Maybe I missed the little hose

I looked at mine again (2003 base no cruise) and there are four vacuum lines hooked up in that region, two that go to the valve cover, a smaller one that runs to a gizmo behind the air cleaner (the one I forgot to hook up) and a fourth one that runs from the back, perhaps on the manifold itself, to the power brake booster. I remember that fourth one being a hassle to get back on

from the top of my head (I cant check because the car is still at the dealership), I only remember connecting 3 hoses. If I didnt connect a hose I'm gonna shoot a $200 hole in my foot

Got the car back a few days ago, I couldnt pick it up myself; so my mother picked it up for me. From what she told me I still cant really understand what I did wrong. As a bit of advice for anyone wanting to replace this gasket....Make sure you label every single vacuum and water line you disconnect (dont try to remember it like I did). Torque the intake bolts properly (i think i may have also squished the gasket).Thanksps. due to my complete f**k up this cost me 500. thanks GM!

Originally it was throwing up a p0171 code. Narrowed it down to a leaking intake gasket. Also, if anyone is thinking im just a dumba** that messed up, im into my third year of engineering...it still baffles me what i did wrong :SBut it is working perfectly now...so weird

mine started up fine. NOW read.... I did recently replace my intake gasket. Which pretty much cured the rough idle. Especially during warm up. But now today, the PO133 has returned along with a somewhat rougher than normal idle during warm up. in gear and stopped. BUT Not as bad as prior to the gasket swap. But still, suddenly worse. I did not change the throttle body gasket. Toyota says you should. But mine was in very good shape. NOT flattened out. Since this latest today PO133 I decided to change SOME of the hose clamps at the intake manifold. Thus far, new clamps = no change. ALSO if the O2 sensor was bad, I think I would get an additional or different code. Any ideas out there? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------2005 AWD PlatinumAlloys, Moon & TunesPower group...just enough to be fun
