I have a 2003 AWD Vibe and i just got back from a long drive (4000km) and my mileage Sux, is it all the AWD's like this? Most of the driving was averaging 100km/h on the highway and some places with big hills, the car feels gutless on the hills. I can't get much over 400km out of a tank. The engine runs same as always and no check enging light on, New air filter. Any ideas on this guys or are they all the same? I have my milage total and fuel bills from my trip and Im going to find out the actual MPG but It's not looking good.
400km breaks down to about 250miles... correct... and yes that is quite bad.that would equal out to be about 25-26mpg. Driving at 100km/ph or 62.5mph, it's not hard for me to hit well in to the 30mpg range. The AWD cars are pritty gutless on the hills. Take it out of overdrive to help matters or disengage your cruse control.I get that in the city, and driving it HARD!ON the highway I get about 30-33mpg. which is about 330-370miles per tank which is about 600km per tank for your conversion.Check your air pressure in your tires. Are you using a winter blend gas? more ethyanol will hurt your MPG... look for a gas station that isn't blending their gas with ethyanol. Most gas pumps will say right on the pump if it's a blend.

Yeah Winter Mileage can drop over warmer months.Keep those tires inflated, keep the air filter clean, under 3K rpm and under 70mph. and the A/C off. With winter gas i would average 28-30MPG hwy. NON-Winter gas 34-36 mpg hwy can be achived. hills will always lower your MPG as well. I have been in fairly flat areas.

2005 AWD What's your story? It's a wonderful thingMomma always said "Help that is not helpful, is no help at all"
If it makes you feel any better, i have a 2005 base vibe manual that is averaging somewhere around 17mpg in a warm climate (honolulu) with mostly city miles and the AC running a good percentage of the time
My mileage varies widely depending on how I drive. If I keep it around 70mph, I'll get around 30mpg easily. My best has been 32mpg. If I drive over 75 gas mileage drops off big time down to about 23-25/ These little engines lose their efficiency dramatically when pushed. Not sure what to tell you about your situation other than whats already been mentioned. Keep in mind this is an AWD vehicle. Yeah, the AWD is dog. Its the slowest car off the line I've ever owned or driven barring some mechanical problem but I knew that when I bought it and still like it. Keep your foot off the floor cause it doesn't get you there any faster anyway. Drive it through a snowstorm and then tell us what you think. Hope you resolve your MPG woes.
PS---Also avoid the ethanol crap as keithvibe suggests. I lose about 2mpg as well as some performance when running on that junk. Nothing but an environmentalist whacko scam and its driving up corn prices.
well i just filled up at a 1/4 tank left and i had 175 miles in that tank. that seems pretty crappy to me considering my air cleaner is clean, new plugs and pcv. I swear its tha cat but the dealer wont replace it cause they dont see anything wrong with it.
I also installed a new air filter, and oil change and it runs great, but im not happy with the power and economy, Looking at a manual 09 model now, but they are not rated much better then mine but im sure it will be better in my area with the hills and dirt roads

I'm only getting about 250 Kms / tank here in the winter. I'd say it sucks big time. Its an 03 AWD Vibe with new plugs, cosmo SRI, and I dont drive it like a bat outta hell. I'd really like to keep the car, but need to fix the gas mileage problems, otherwise I might aswell just be driving an SUV with this mileage.

I'm getting about 400km to a tank in the winter here. I don't think I can find gas without ethanol here. I'd love to try some and see if there is any difference.
Yes that is correct. They suggest with the TRD Superchager you should run a 91 Octane. And I get about 26 MPG 80% Highway, 20% city. The problem is they DON"T suggest putting the TRD SC on the AWD. LOL

Well, im getting JUST over 300 kms/tank now that i started using 91 octane fuel, could also be that the weather has been a bit warmer, between 0 to -10C. Most i've seen in winter so far is 320 kms/tank
