Clunking front Passenger side - please help mechanics cant find the problem

Post by kcorby »

Hey guys, I have a 2003 Pontiac Vibe AWD owned since new. It has 150,000 km and we have not replaced anything except for oil changes, tires, wipers and battery. For the past 6 months there is a loud clunking noise coming from the passenger front side. Only appears when the wheel is turn hard to the left and usually only when starting to excelerate. I have taken it to two (2) mechanics and both cannot find out what the issue is and they do not see anything with any play or wear. Very frustrating but glad the noise only shows up once in a while (when turning the wheel hard -eg pulling out of a parking space or driveway). Obviously it can't be that much of a safety issue if they can't see anything wrong. Does any one have any suggestions before I start ripping apart the entire front of the car and replace parts that don't need to be replaced. Thanks so much.

You need a new mechanic. That is so basic for FWD cars, that if he couldn't diagnose it, don't let him repair it ! Serious.
