lookin at getting a new stereo

Post by patmanbbe »

Hey guys I been browsing everyone's posts on their stereo installs and I wanted to ask a few questions. I see that many of you use the Scosche converter to wire the speaker outputs to the amp at the proper output level. I plan to do the same as my 07 vibe GT has the monsoon system with amp and sub. I don't plan to upgrade the speakers or amp or sub anytime soon. My real question is about the new head unit. How many RCA preamp outputs should I look for on the head unit? Does the monsoon system use the RCA connections or the standard speaker wire? Here is what I am looking at getting:Head unit: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_5...specs Scosche : http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...ntentAll other install stuff will come with the head unit from crutchfield. Let me know what you guys think. I am not lookin to break the bank just want to be able to connect my MP3 player. Also the buttons on my stock head unit are peeling off and it looks terrible. Thanks!

Hi and welcome to GV..!!It really doesn't matter if you are going to use the Scosche LOC... it's going to use speaker level IN from the HU (speaker outputs) and convert them to low level (RCA level) but without the RCA connection... So really you need not worry about RCA connections unless you plan on adding an amp later... If you DO plan on it, I say no less than 3 sets of RCA's... This usually gives you front/rear and a subwoofer outputCheers..!!

I ended up not getting the Scosche but a similar product that crutchfeild offered at 50% off retail price when I purchased my head unit. Here it is:http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1...=5684It comes with a set of RCA adapters as well but I don't think I will use them. Not bad for $15 bucks. it has the manual gain controls as well so I think I am all set. My wife bought my whole setup for me as an anniversary gift! I will post pics up when I get done with install and setup. Thanks for the help guys you've been great!

Ok I need help!!!!After installing everything and trying to adjust the damn thing, my tweeters are blown and I am back to stock radio with blown tweeters! This sucks. I am going to ask for a refund on my purchase and some replacement component speakers with tweeters. I should have just gone with a head unit and amp replacement. I need some advise guys. Any help would be great...

Ok so I got a full refund on my total purchase. here is the new plan:Alpine iDA-X303 Digital media recieverInfinity Reference 5030 component speakers (front and rear doors powered by the Alpine)Infinity 8" Reference Sub in stock locationInfinity Reference 1300a ampRewire everything.I wasn't planning on replacing the whole system but I feel it is the only way to be sure that it all works properly. My failed install really convinced me to just replace and rewire the whole sound system. I will probably install it in stages, the head unit, amp and sub first, then the speakers. So this is the new plan, thoughts, input or suggestions welcome!

I'm not a fan of Infinity speakers at ALL (well, some select subs) They tend to lack in Midbass a LOT.. FYI

Well this project has to go on hold. Gonna have to throw down some cash for school. Also have a baby coming any day now. No time and little money means it will have to wait. Anyone with a spare set of tweeters layin around willing to let them go for cheap, like a little chicken cheeps, let me know. lol
