Ok Crutchfield, Vibe, Red Back Lighting

Post by SRR1138 »

I need/want a HU that has built in Bluetooth phone calls AND streaming music from a Motorola Droid. Must match the Vibes red back lighting. And have a aux in on the front of it. Have any of you guys purchased anything that matches my criteria? I know how to search their site, but the Bluetooth calls AND streaming part is a little fuzzy for me.Thanks for any input.

"This item is no longer available to purchase. Contact us for other options."I did see it at amazon for $250~ plus shipping, but then I would need all the extras, like a wiring harness and the speaker to line level adjuster?

I purchased a Kenwood that does all that: http://www.crutchfield.com/s_1...=5684. It's a GREAT radio except the glare on the display almost makes it impossible to see during the day. I am actually thinking about sending mine back for the next model up. It's one of their "signature" radios so you have 90 days to return if no likey. I also got the HD Radio add-on (saved some money and got a refurbished one). I really like having the single din radio too 'cause I put my phone, etc... in the bottom.Good luck! Plus, it's great if you have an iPod also. It's streams great from my phone, and can even skip songs with the radio controls using Pandora.

Ya we don't own an ipod, but we do use pandora from a droid.I do like the clarion but then a single din would be nice for the fact of the "extra" storage that would be there. But then if I can't see the Kenwood cause of glare, well that is not good . I/we are starting to think that streaming bluetooth audio could be dropped from the feature list as long as it still has bluetooth calls and of course a aux in from our phones. And I have no idea what is out there for HD radio in our area, Madison, WI. I am sure a google search would help me there. But our listening tastes is mostly Christian Rock (Skillet, Demon Hunter, etc.) that is why Pandora and the MP3 playback from our phones are important to us, I could care less about the AM/FM part, I know sad. Anyways keep the suggestions coming. Also I did not know Crutchfield sells the wiring stuff separately from the HU's so I guess that opens it up to a lot more places to buy from. As long as I can get the instructions on how to take the factory radio out and wire the new one I should be ok.Picking up our new to us Vibe tomorrow, so this radio/stereo is really the first thing we need/want to do.

If you get a HU that is bluetooth ready, then you could get the Parrot bluetooth unit and still be able to stream music from you phone (I believe you can... might depend on which one you buy). The Kenwood HU that I bought has the Parrot Bluetooth built in. I also have a Droid and it pairs up great.Oh yeah, congrats on the car!

I have a wiring harness I'll never use...I got a new one free from SonicElectronics.com when I bought my head unit, but I already had one. PM me your address and it's on it's way to your front door

Just today in the Best Buy ad, there's a JVC for only $69 BEFORE install. It not only has red back lighting, but Bluetooth. The icing on the cake? An aux up front AND back for a nice stealth auxiliary wire running for any other device you want to hear through your HU. Surprisingly, they threw in a remote. Not too shabby for a $69 price point.I'm thinking of going after this one in the spring, as I also have a Droid w/Bluetooth (and the SiriusXM app running):http://tinyurl.com/6ynxascCrutchfield doesn't even stock this one yet, so I figure by the time I am ready to buy, a few reviews will come in, and I'll feel confident about picking one up. And the Scosche SLC-4, as I have the OEM Monsoon amp/speaker setup.
Steelies to the rescue.

I like the price point of $70, I might even splurge for best buy install, unless they are way to pricey. Decisions, decisions.Btw, how much is a bluetooth adaptor for this jvc? As far as I can tell, it requires one?

Clarion CX609 Now if I buy it what else do I need? The ad says it comes with everything that it was supposed to come with including a wire harness.Do I need install tools of any kind? Can I get just a master sheet for the vibe/this Clarion unit/whatever. I mean I want to install the mic for it on the rear view mirror but would have no idea on how to route so it looks clean and not toooooooo after market.Any hints or what not that you guys can add here please do. I have helped install ONE after market car stereo, so this is still new ground I am walking on, but I am more then willing to go there, lol.

My HU, a JVC HD-R60. Aux jack, USB, HD radio, sat radio ready, Bluetooth, remote, and you can change the colors of the screen and buttons individually. I chose red and green. All red looks good too.

Well I bought that Clarion CX609 installed and turned a few brown hairs on my head grey, but it is done. Along the way I learned 1) I have a amp under the passenger seat (aka moons and tunes aka M & T), 2) Crutchfield is a first class outfit even if they don't sell you the right stuff in the first place, 3) Taking off the trim panel is a piece of cake on a 2004 vibe 4) DON'T install a stereo when the temp is below 0 degrees Fahrenheit, it gets cold in the car real quick like.

When i installed mine all i needed was the dash mounting kit and the antenna adapter so u can listen to FM. Also i put mi mic coming out of the airvent on the left of the radio and just mounted it behind the steering wheel . sorta between the steering wheel and the dash. barely noticeable

Poking around that Crutchfield site to look at some of the pretty stuff... looks like they don't have any adapters compatible with the 2009+ Vibes (or Matrixes) that hook up to the steering wheel audio controls. Does anywhere else sell stuff like that?Getting vaguely interested in this, especially since we were thinking of doing Bluetooth anyway... what I would ideally like to do is buy the Bluetooth controls that come on the Matrix steering wheel and swap out that part, IF I can buy something aftermarket that fits with that, AND the audio controls, AND is compatible with both XM and OnStar.... anything like that out there?

And then followed the light down towards a opening by the drivers right knee, ran the mic through there. Then up the steering column and used one of the clips that came with the clarion, to clip it to the washer stalk....for now. I think people on the other end of our phone calls might hear us better if we move it to where you have it, but I don't think there was a clip that came with ours that would easily do it like yours. Of course a little gaffer tape or whatever wouldn't hurt. Seeing as the CX609 was used we might not have gotten every last part, but he did include a gaggle of screws and what nots.
