Hi all, newbie here (to the forums and tuning). I just got my Vibe 2 days ago and was hoping to do a little work to it. Its an 09 1.8L with a 5 speed manual trans. I wanted to start off simple with a cold air intake by haven't been able to find one anywhere. Does anyone know where to get one or if a CAI for a different car will fit? Thanks in advance!
Well personally I'd advise you to avoid getting a CAI. I feel they tend to be too risky when weighing the pluses verses downsides. As far as getting more performance out of a 1.8l adding a CAI will do little more than add more engine noise. If you'd like to free up some air in the engine I will advocate replacing your stock air filter with a K&N drop in air filter. Then again you could just as easily keep your stock air filter and have no mechanical worries whatsoever. Really its up to you to decide whats best for your engine.
WOW, Cosmo Doesn't off a CAI or SRI for the 09 1zz. The K&N drop in filter will work also you can build a poor man's CAI. From the Air Box forward you could add a bigger hose and run it behind the fender well which will also improve air flow into the filter.

I have a K&N Typhoon short ram on my '09 Vibe GT and it's so nice that I can leave it on year round with no worries of water, snow, ice, etc.K&Ns are a bit pricey but in my opinion are well worth it because the fit, finish, etc. is excellent.

Thanks for the replies! I did end up expanding my search to corollas and found a nice (and cheap) short ram on ebay.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...oriesI also found the installation manual which had a pic of the installed unit - it looks damn near identical to whats under my hood. If anyone knows why this wouldn't work please let me know. I plan on ordering it monday.btw keithvibe - where in the lehigh valley?

Just wanted to report back.... Just got my intake: Weapon-R Dragon Ram Air model # 805-164-101. Installed in about 30 minutes. The thing sounds great and gives a noticeable performance boost (only going by what I feel -- no dyno testing). I would definitely recommend it to someone in my same shoes. It also look pretty good -- will post pics when I get a free moment.
For future reference, Weapon R has their own website and they give you a bit more help if you order it direct from there. They also have the Secret weapon filters, which I would advise you upgrade to on a much later date if needed. I've been to their werehouse in SF. Really cool guys. They also offer to give you a free intake if your car isn't listed on their site and you can drive the car to the werehouse. You will enjoy that intake. Careful when you touch the top, those spikes may be plastic but they still hurt when jabbed into you.
