Newbie here, soon to be owner of 2004, but I have a question or two...

Post by SRR1138 »

Buying a vibe next week, I forgot to ask the person I am buying from, but did the 2004 come in auto transmission and FWD, or just AWD. Yes a newbie here. Under circumstances as they are, passing of a spouse, was the spouses car and now they just want to get rid of it, for a good price. So I don't want to bother them with does it have this or that right now. I did test drive it though, and me likey.Anything I should have looked for while driving, I tested everything checked coolent, oil, and all the knobs and buttons in the cabin, everything seemed to be working.

AWD came in AUTO only. On the others AUTO was an option. Hope that answers your question. Is it an AWD? Welcome to Genvinbe!

That is my problem, I forgot to look ask if it was AWD. Why I am asking if the auto transmission meant they included AWD, is because edmunds or KBB, site one of the two, you can only configure the base with auto and AWD, not auto and FWD. I know I most sound confused. I went to Pontiac's website last night and I couldn't download the cars manual or the getting to know your vibe spec sheet, etc. etc. Maybe because I use chrome for the browser. Either way they did make the automatics with FWD or AWD right? not just AWD?

I believe you can get an AUTO in the XR version but perhaps not the Base Matrix. I'm not sure about the Vibe (Ugly sister of the Matrix...Just Kidding)

The '04 Base came in an auto or 5 speed, the AWD is auto only, the GT came in a 6 Speed only.

Odds are it is FWD (not AWD) because1. If it was AWD the seller probably would have mentioned that; and2. AWD's were a small part of the total productionThere was even a year (or two) without an AWD I think.

Thanks peeps, I haven't written much on the forums here. But I sure have read a lot of good stuff.Should, crossing my fingers be picking up our "new to us" Vibe on Thursday (at the latest). So I know you want pictures, well I don't have any, YET. But I can tell you about it. It is a Salsa 2004 Vibe base automatic, with sliding sunroof, no power seat/s, basic CD/radio And we are coming from a 2000 Chevy Malibu that had 214,000 miles. Which died because of a head gasket being blown. So I will miss these features, V6 power, power seats, and not much else :-). Na our Malibu was a good car, she took care of us and we took care of it, sprt of. Hoping the same or better odometer readings from the Vibe when it goes belly up.

I loved that 3.8 liter V6 and "lazy boy" leather seats. Ohhh such a comfortable ride.We all look forward to the unveiling of your new ride!Stay on top of the maintenance (for the most part) and you should be able to bury the Malibu's mileage. ...My signature says it all! In fact she's my one and only vehicle and still going. Just be ready to pop in a new instrument panel when you hit "the milestone." The odometer doesn't go any further.

Welcome to GenVibeThe 4th and 5th digit of the VIN are the model: SL = Vibe Base (FrontWD); SM = Vibe AWD; SN = GT
