I did a search and couldn't find much. My friend's 2003 Vibe GT will usually, but not always, rev up to 3000 RPM when you push in the clutch well after the car has warmed up. If you mash on the accelerator, it will go back to idling at about 1000 RPM. She does little to no maintenance on it other than oil changes, although she does occasionally take it to a garage, so I wouldn't be too surprised if everything is pretty much original. I don't really trust the garage she takes it to, so I can't be sure if they've done any routine maintenance either. What are your opinions as to what could cause this and what I should try first?Thanks!-JT
the first thing i would try would be to clean the throttle body of carbon build up. it may be stopping it from closing all the way. if that doesnt work then the iac(idle air control motor) may be sticking open. if this happen for a few drive cycles you will pry get a check engine light with code p0505.if it is the iac then you may have to pull it and try cleaning it. good luck

Thanks! I did try cleaning all the throttle linkages and making sure nothing was sticking or binding. It's never shown a check engine light. I'll try cleaning the throttle body and change the PCV valve and report back.-JT
Okay I had exactly same problem when I bought my 2003 Vibe last December, more like one month ago, it has 200,000kms and very noisy engine and high idle, very bad gas milage.....I will tell you what I have done to get rid of those problems and I did it by myself, DIY. NOW IT IS TOTALLY NEW CAR^^ PURRING LIKE CAT.1. Chaged PCV, cost $92. Changed intake manifold & throtle body gasket, cost $13 all together3. Cleaned MAF, throtle body with brake & throtle body cleaner4. Changed upstream oxygen sensor-4 wire system, never buy 2 or 3 wire system!!! and it cost $505. Changed spark plugs-Denso Iridium, I bought Bosh double platinum spark plugs but they didn't work good enough so I changed Denso Iridium, cost 30$Total cost was $102 and I made almost new car!!And the results are very stable idle(before: 3,000rpm, cold start and after warming up dropped 600rpm and it was very shaky //after: 1,500rpm and after warming up dropped 750rpm and now very quite)very good milage(before: 18-22mpg // after: 26-32mpg, city-highway)If I see your car, definetly I can fix your car for free
I'd love to take you up on the offer, but it's a little far from Reno to Ottawa. Seeing as how it's now my ex-girlfriend's car, I don't want to put too much effort into it. I'll try the simple stuff and see how it goes.-JT
After fighting, and losing, with the heater core (http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=43400) I wasn't in much of a mood to try much. I did clean the PCV valve and I thought it made a small improvement, but it was short lived. It was pretty bad so the hose connected to it is probably pretty gunked up as well. If I ever get the energy to take another look I'll try cleaning out everything. For now, I hope I never see the car again.-JT
It turned out to be the throttle plate sticking in the throttle body. I kludged in a thin washer pounded out of a loop of wire around the throttle plate shaft to act as a spacer and keep the throttle plate centered in the throttle body thereby allowing it to close without rubbing against the inside of the throttle body.-JT
