my roof area is worn out pretty bad. for the 4 1/2 yrs I've had the car, I've taken great care of it, but the 3 yrs before that I doubt it ever saw wax.So mine's dull all over when you see it up close, but still presentable when it's clean
i have time impression that the clear coat on my '10 is pretty mediocre. i'm planning on having it for the long haul, so i was wondering about the possibility of having some clear shot on it in 5 years or so. any idea what that would cost?
I only had problems w/clear coat after waxing. The car/paint seems to get hotter when left in the sun and it is my impression that waxing may not be the best thing for clearcoat. And darker colored cars seem even more suseptable.e.g. I had a '92 Mitsu Expo (Plymouth Colt-Vista, really) that had beautiful paint on it, until a year after I started waxing regularly. I had seen junkers, same year, same model, that had obviously never been taken care of, but they looked better than mine.My wife's '95 Saturn: I never waxed the car in the 6-7 yrs we had it, until one time I spot waxed the hood and deck lid to help with the water streaks that were developing on it. The very next year the clear was peeling off.And yes, I have tried several quality brands of wax too. From now on, I am going to save my time and trouble. As far as adding clear, I don't think a BS would do that. In a desperate experiment, I tried that on my wife's former Saturn using a spray bomb. It didn't look any better, really, and it only lasted a month before it too started to peel.
