Hood won't Latch

Post by JustAsking »

Hood is having issues latching. I can eventually get it to latch if holding in the release and repeatedly slam the hood, but it doesn't feel like it takes too much force for me to pop it back open simply by pulling up on the hood with my finger tips. No amount of PB Blaster / WD40 makes a difference.Time to replace the latch? Cable or spring issue? How difficult is it and anyone have install instructions, tips, or pics? On a properly functioning latch, can you pop the hood by pulling on the hood? Any experiences welcome.

Try adjusting down the hood bumpers/vibration mounts... They are black rubber plugs with a thread that can be losened or tightened. Screw them down a turn or tiny bit more. Then try and latch the hood

Good idea, but it didn't work. I thought if I took the latch off I might understand the issue, but can't even figure that out. I took off the front two bolts and couldn't figure out what else has to come off, but the latch is clearly still attached somewhere.

FYI - A day or so later, the hood started popping up while driving. I drove it straight to a shop. It was a broken spring in the latch. $135 for the latch, $45 for service, plus tax.

sucks to have to drop the $180 on the repair, but my brother can tell you that 's better than having the hood blow open at highway speeds, rip off the hinges, shattering the windshield, flying over the roof of the car to land on the highway where truckers take turns smoothing it out.

i watched this happen to a friend of mine... seen it fly up in my rear view mirror. smashed his windshield... one of the people we were traveling with had some clear packing tape and we taped his window inside and out so it wouldn't shatter and he drove home threw a view of a fishbowl.. 600miles.
