How can I replace a fog light assembly

Post by inidlats »

Hi guys,My wife drives an 05 Vibe. Living out West cracked windshields, rock chips, and the occasional busted light are just part of life when they spread gravel on the roads in the winter out here. Anyhow, the driver's side fog light glass lens was broken, so I ordered a replacement and am having a hard time of figuring out how to replace the damn thing. We live in Northern Idaho, and the fog lights actually get used a fair amount in winter and spring. If any of you could tell me how to replace them, I'd really appreciate it!

It's really not that hard once you see how it's done. Here's a couple of threads that might help you: http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=8343 http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=23709 From above link:Quote, originally posted by scherry2 »you need a 10 mm ratchet or wrench, a small pocket screw driver and a flash light.take the 2 bolts out of the sheild under the bumper to have easy access. shine the flashlight at the rear and you will see 1 round peices on each side stick the screwdriver behind the tab holding it and pull the screwdriver away from the fog lamp housing and with your other hand push on the back of the fog lamp housing once you have them both loose take and push with the screw driver on each side of the adjusting screw at the bottom of the housing to get it loose the fog lamp will then come out the front of the bumper hole Attachment: 070306.jpg (793738 bytes, downloaded 204 times)PS--I lived in Idaho for awhile and loved it up there! But I was more in potato country on the eastern side.

I think the explanation provided below by another enthusiast is basically accurate:"You need a 10 mm ratchet or wrench, a small pocket screw driver and a flash light. take the 2 bolts out of the shield under the bumper to have easy access. shine the flashlight at the rear and you will see round pieces on each side. Stick the screwdriver behind the tab holding it and pull the screwdriver away from the fog lamp housing and with your other hand push on the back of the fog lamp housing. Once you have them both loose, take and push with the screw driver on each side of the adjusting screw at the bottom of the housing to get it loose. The fog lamp will then come out the front of the bumper hole."...is basically accurate, with one exception. I just followed these instructions to replace my passenger side fog light. I found the side of the light toward the center of the car has the tab mentioned above, which I released. However, the side of the light toward the outside of the car, which is much tougher to access, did NOT have this tab. After monkeying around for around 30 minutes trying to release this phantom tab, I was able to release the outside "button" by slipping a flat bladed screw driver between the fog light and the car from the outside/front of the car. It released immediately. The new light popped right in to the newly vacated space.Best of luck!!
