Adding an LED to base Vibe

Post by Drivinthvibe »

Ok I want to add a super bright red LED flush mounted in my rear view mirror so that when the doors are locked it blinks and when they are unlocked it does not .. I purchased a blinking LED, a 5 prong relay, now all I need to know is if I can just tap one of the door lock wires to trip the relay on when I lock the doors and trip it again when I unlock the doors ..I think it should work .. I did search but I found nothing on the subject so I am sorry in advance if it has been covered

I would assume that it's be easy to wire them into the blinkers to make them flash when you hit the buttom, if that's what you're looking for. By the sound of it, you want it to go off like the airbag or seat belt thing when the doors aren't locked. If you could wire a switch into the door locking mechanism you could have it so the door lock mechanism physically trips a switch. The flashing can be done with a board between the switch and the lights.

Ok cancel the relay .. I put a resistor inline with the positive side of the blinking LED now I jsut need to find a wire that goes from positive to negative when the key is off .. ..

He got me in IM before I had a chance to reply to the thread. If anyone else is interested in doing this it would take 3 relays one relay to energize a second relay to latch on and one relay to ground the middle relay to turn it off. I mad it sound confusing, sorry here is a simple methodhttp://www.the12volt.com/relay....html Just use the Lock wire to energize and the un lock to unenergize.
Vibe is gone and will be missed as I've gone country style
