Hi,After reading a lot of posts on here, I tried to wire an iPod jack into my stereo on my basic 04' (Matrix, actually). When testing some wires, I think I shorted something on my CD player- it stopped working completely, but the radio still works fine. Not to be deterred....There are lots of posts on what wires to cut and solder on the CD circuit board, but my questions is this... can I cut into and put switches on the colored wires coming out of the back of the stereo instead? (thus, cutting the CD player out of the loop.) With 4 speakers, would I have to have 4 DPDT switches (since each speaker has 2 wires going to it)? This seems to make sense to me, but nobody has suggested it... are there flaws in this plan?? Thanks for the help!Evan

Thanks for the help!EvanEvan J.... First off, this is sooooo strange... My brother is an Evan J(erome), and we used to live in Alexandria Va... lol... Second, I just don't get what you are trying to do? You say take the CD player out of the loop, and you want to put switches on the wires coming out of the back of the HU to remove the HU from the loop, not just the CD mech.. Just buy a new HU man, it's save you a LOT of headache.. I mean you already fried something.. Check this out.. http://www.sonicelectronix.com...oogleBTW, welcome to GV...
'They' make adapters for IPOD's that go inline in the antenna. Decent sound but not as clean as a direct input.I'd just get a new radio as suggested. I got a new one last week and am very happy with it, though I don't use the aux port. I'm bluetoothing it instead
I may have read that wrong but if you use an ipod and switches inline with your radio wires, you would have a signal from the ipod without any amplification. Meaning the same amount of power that you use with headphones... The soldering technique actually wires it in to the radio to make an actual ipod input. i would strongly suggest an aftermarket head unit, even with the stock speakers and a line level converter it sounds better than the stock radio, plus in the future you could upgrade any number of audio components. but if youre on a strict budget an FM transmitter or the radio unit Renthorin mentioned would be cheaper.

Hey all,Thanks for the advice. Just moving and buying a car, I'm on quite a strict budget, so I was hoping to do the aux installation myself (and I also like a good project). I guess the thing to do is just wait and buy a new HU when I can. I was hoping to tap into the wires as they leave the HU, but I gather that going straight from my iPod to the amp and speakers wouldn't have a strong enough signal. Thanks for the help!
