Post by clubmaker50 »

Does anyone know if i replace a radio (am/fm/cd) in a 2004 vibe with another vibe radio (same model possible different year) will i have any issues with an anti theft activation ? If so....how do you determine if your vehical has anti theft installed?

Welcome to GenVibe!!! Lots of people here have swapped radios, although usually aftermarket... (better choice and features for the same price) but I don't recall any recent posts about radio swap issues other then wiring

Well, to be accurate, the only anti theft is that blinking red LED, but that's all it is, a "pseudo theft deterrent system". The 09-10 Vibe radios are probably not interchangeable with the earlier Vibe radios. Many GM vehicles of the last decade had radios with theftlock, and if you swapped radios you had to enter a code to reactivate it, but not in Vibes. That theftlock system uses a data bus, but Vibes, being mostly Toyota, do not have the GM data bus. What this means is that the Vibe radios can't and don't use theftlock. However, there are some GM radios that look exactly like the Vibe radios but do use theftlock, so if you are looking for a replacement radio, be sure it came out of a Vibe (or an 03-04 Matrix).

Thank you for your quick reply. I'm changing her radio because seh damaged her cd player, i couldn't find a cd module replacement but i did come across a few radios like hers but everyone from ebay is warning me about anti theft activation so i came her (forum) thinking the advice would be more reliable. When i did have the radio out of her car i noticed that the cd player was easy to change but i misplaced the data that i copied down so its just as easy to change the radio all together. Thanks very much for the education on the vibe anti theft issue, you probably saved me some $.

If you want a hu cheap, I've got one to spare. I recently changed mine. All features work fine, but the buttons are worn.
