Please don't tell me you are into that, it's unsafe, illegal, and down right stupid. Try this, next time you walk around in a pair of shoes, walk on the side of your foot and see how well that works out for you. Form should never come before function!

Unsafe, yes... But not compared to some of the jalopies I've owned in the past...A little less tint on the tails though...But I ride a motorcycle so who am I to comment on safety.....

It's basically like the rim is wider than the actual tire, and it's just that, stretched to fit the rim. At least that's what I think it is... Yikes! You can really see it in these pics:

As far as the point, I believe it's usually so people can have a larger rim without a larger tire (aka a rim that would technically be too big for the car if they bought a tire that was fitted properly). But yeah I don't understand this trend much. There are a lot of car trends I don't understand!

"stretch" is all the rage in the VW scene. I think it looks stupid too. I park next to way too many curbs to want to risk that. the Vibe, on the other hand, looks pretty good.

he is on this forum. http://forums.genvibe.com/zero...age=1all i see are stock vibers bashin on someone trying to do different. boy has this forum gone downhill. im not bashing on any of you but the look actually doesn't look bad imo. the car is clean and is different. if i go that route, that is something i am risking. i have also done a lot of research and stretching tires damage the same as non-streched tires. its a look and some will like and some won't. i understand the term "form over function" but find out whether he drives the car as his daily driver... maybe its just for show... we don't know. i used to bash on them but im starting to see why people do it. its different. tires blow all the time. whats new? thats exactly why im not on here much anymore or support genvibe very much n e more cuz not many like nice aftermarket vibes.

I'm one of the members that commented how nice his car looked in that original thread, and my Vibe is still fairly stock. I love his ride, but never noticed his tires were part of this "stretched" trend. Personally, I would be worried to roll on those for long, but maybe you're right about how little he uses the car.Either way, I love his drop. The style of rims. Tint on the lights. But someone answer this for me: When did people start displaying stickers on an angle like that? I see that style constantly, even on cars in my parking lot at work and always wondered where that came from.

your comparing that ridiculous looking pink thing to a nicely modded car. i mean, you just cant compare them. i am not bashing on the fact that everyone has a stock vibe but if you guys have your 2 cents, make it your 2 cents and do not make it look like your bashing. I had made some popcorn expecting this thread to devolve into a interesting flame war, and was surprised to see everyone getting along with each other so well. sounds like the concensus is that people like to express creativity by modifing cars, safety is an important concern, and beauty is in the eye of the beholder. anybody hear from wagonmafia3 lately? hasn't posted since June. Would be interesting to get his perspective on the stretched tire issue

Post by Wagonmafia3 »

Hey everyone im not really on this site anymore since the vibe has been gone for 3 months now. Im actually suprised that I stumbled across this thread. When I sold the vibe it was 04 GT 42K on the clock. The car was garaged, and daily driven except in snow. Parts list included: PPE Header, PPE Midpipe, Greddy Evo 2 Exhaust, Injen CAI, Southbound Clutch, Fidanza Flywheel, TSW Short Shifter, Megan Coilovers, 18" BBFakes, DC Strut Bar, and a bunch of other stuff. Mando just to let you know the set up on the vibe was very mild. Megan Racing Coils 18x8.5/9.5 et 25 BBFake LM's with 215/40 and 225/40 Falken 912s. If your really trying to get into the Stanced scene it's not gonna be easy with the vibe to get it to be "Hellaflush" worthy. The biggest hurddle is getting the vibe low enough. Within any of the coilovers on the market for Vibe/Matrix they wont go low enough.Or buy bags. Then you run into not being able to find many wheels that are made in 5x100 that are wide enough with low offsets. When you figure all that out the Front/Rear Fender Flare will need to be trimmed and Rear Fender will need to be rolled so that rubbing wont be a problem. To the rest thanks for your comments. Some like it some dont. It's seems like most are concerned about the stretched tires. The whole Stretched thing started in germany/belgium, local laws required that the tire tread be within the fender line. well that doesnt allow one to run wider or lower offset wheels, so they put narrower tires on the wheel to maintain legality. The whole time I ran stretched tires I never had one problem. Just for ****s and giggles I attached a pic with 17x10.5 et 20 wheels on the Vibe.
