Bandit Trans Am

Post by ving »

The original may only have been a 180 hp automatic 6.6 liter, but ol' Burt made it look cool on the silver screen. Sounded powerful too. Bandit Bird V8

I was going to say but you've been here longer than me. Just an out of the blue, odd post for someone who hasn't posted for 4-1/2 years...Burt did make it look cool, though.

I'm pretty sure the sound is more a credit to the sound editor than the actual Firebird engine.Still, fun movie, cool car. Loved Reynolds in his day - heck, still love him.

Great movie great looking car. You CAN thank the sound editor.I read somewhere that the car Burt drove was a auto & they dubbed a manuls trans over it...LOL. Doesnt take away from a great flick though. One of my faves. Isnt that TA pictured from the sequel???

The poster for Smokey & The Bandit II makes Burt look like one of the Village People, but that's cool. Super stuntman Hal Needham said they used a 750 bhp NASCAR motor for the car that did the bridge jump in the original film. Burt did so much for the positive image of the Firebird and GM in the late '70s. Hooper - 1978 No CGI effects in those days.

The Bandit Trans Am in Smokey & The Bandit Part 3 (1983) was clean looking, and deserves more respect, even though technically Burt wasn't at the wheel. Snowman as Bandit with a slim Colleen Camp riding shotgun.
