BLOWER FAN--INTERMITTENT & ERRATIC

Post by VibininFla »

08 Vibe, 48 K miles. Problem started about 3-4 months ago. With A/C on, motor cuts out and in intermittently. Needed a whack or two with a handy umbrella or something, and then it would continue on, then off, then on again with road bumps. Was okay for couple months. Acting up same way again, but now won't come on with just simple bumps -- I need to have glove box out and wrestle/muscle the black wiring harness around. Motor will run at all speeds (so not the problem I've been reading about with the resistor???). However, if it's running at '3' (medium) and I move the speed control to '4' or 'high' it will cut out again. Brushes?... or wiring connector? Frustrating as this car has been on the road (only) 36 months, 48 K miles, yes this is central Fla and A/C gets used everyday, still shouldn't have to be replacing a blower fan this early. thanks, mike

Sounds like the Blower Motor Resistor or Blower Motor... Check out the connection first and go from thereCheck out this thread: http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=36099

Looking of course for cheapest, easiest fix.Start by uninstalling the motor and resistor (clean all contacts). Check all the connections and then see if it continues. If that doesn't, start with the resistor. Keep the original box and do not tell the parts store you installed the resistor if that wasn't the problem. Then you know it is the blower motor.

Didn't have to pull the motor or resistor. Removed the connector, got in with my smallest file, crimped it w/ a needle-nose (without cracking the outer plastic), and that appartently was all that was needed. Fan runs at all speeds (so i expected already it wasn't that resistor issue that i've read about... although in my case, if the motor only ran on 'high', wouldn't be an issue, just angle the vents wherever). Thanks, mike
