Any 09-10 owners may want to peel the weatherstripping back and check your frames for rust; the sunroof glass and frame is being replaced under warranty today. On an unrelated note, 3 of the TPMS are bad on the 17" factory 5 spoke machined wheels. The service manager at the dealer gave me a load of nonsense that the tires didn't show enough wear for the mileage on the odometer, and that the sensors were ruined by the "people that put your aftermarket tires and rims on". None of the tires and wheels have ever had any repair work done on them, but I did swap out to winter tires and steel rims last winter. Happy Motoring!

Happy Motoring!Any chance you could post some pictures of where exactly the rust is/was? I would like to check both our '09 GTs to see if we have the same problem or not. That sucks about the TPMSs. We haven't had any problems with ours. We both ran steelies all last winter without any TPMSs and when I put the 18s back on in the spring the TPMS light went right off. At least you're getting all this stuff taken care of under warranty!Quote, originally posted by star_deceiver »Poked around under the car while it was on the hoist today. No rust except the tailpipe.Havn't seen any rust elsewhere. The rust is on the sunroof frame, not the frame of the car .Quote, originally posted by 09vGT »What warranty covers rust? Like the mileage. If its the bumper to bumper I'm way out! There's a corrosion warranty. I'll look up the info on it later and report back.

Sorry, no pictures available. If you roll the roof back a foot or so, reach up and push the forward edge of the weatherstripping up, and the frame will be visible underneath. Mine was rusted all the way around its frame. The Pontiac warranty site states that "All body and sheet metal components are warranted against rust-through corrosion for 6 years / 100,000 miles (whichever comes first)." It would seem to me that the sunroof is part of the body.
Isn't the key phrase "rust through". If not rusted through the metal, no coverage.

I too am curious as to where this rust is located. I'll open my roof tomorrow and do an inspection. My Vibe GT is always garaged and has very low mileage so I may not have this issue yet. I'd also be curious as to the mileage and weather conditions you've been exposed to since new AND is your Vibe garaged?

Do you mean the light colored trim that is on the inside of the car around the sunroof? He lives in Illinois Tim, so the weather is about the same as you experience in Ohio. I too am curious though as to whether your Vibe is garaged, washing and drying habits, etc. Our Vibes are both garaged and have been since they were bought new. I wash them regularly and always make sure to wipe down the door jambs, under the hatch, under the hood, etc.

I should have said the rubber seal that is attached the the outer edges if the sunroof frame, instead of weatherstripping. What you need to look for is rust underneath the seal, mine had surface rust all the way around the edges of the frame that encloses the glass. FWIW, the car is parked outside 4-5 days a week , and is in an unheated garage otherwise. It gets waxed 3-4 times a year, and I noticed the rust when putting silicone grease on all of the door seals, etc. Tpollauf, the area here is close to I-80 in northern Illinois, That should give you an idea of the weather.
I just checked mine and couldn't find any rust in the sunroof area at all. Underneath seals etc.. My car set outside 7 days a week, is washed once a week during nice weather, and MAYBE once a month during cold, never waxed. HOT and HUMID here from May-September, fairly cold during the winter.

I noticed this rust last spring and the GM dealer told me they couldn't warranty it because it wasn't a body panel, and it hadn't rusted through. I'm hoping that I can go back later (when it's crumbling) and claim that as 'through'.It sure seems like this shouldn't be a place you'd have to worry about rust...under weatherstripping that doesn't see much movement.
