Dumb tire question

Post by BrettZ »

I ordered some winter tires off tire rack and bought steel wheels at costco. Getting them mounted and balanced this weekend. Do I just have to by valve stems? Is there anything else I need to buy in order to get them mounted?

If you have the stock aluminum wheels you will probably need wheel nuts.

I use my stock lugs with my steel winter wheels.. the stock lugs DO have a tapered seat, which 99.9% of wheels ACTUALLY use (why the vibe doesn't is TOTALLY beyond me)You might want to consider using the old lugs with the winter wheels and get new lugs for the summers.. The stock lug design sucks soooo bad, having extras around isn't a bad idea..

You use the stock nuts, the ones with a strait shank and washerlike these ones http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAP...AX:IT I would have to measure the hole size and the shank size but it looks like it wouldn't be contacting by that much

yup, the tip is tapered just like any other lug, just the vibe uses a different mount than usual, with the washer actually holding the wheel to the hub and the it being hubcentric, the lugs don't align the wheel..Most winter wheels aren't hub centric, so the tapered seat lugs play a key roll in centering the wheel..
