Who has the highest miles on an '03 - '04 AWD....?

Post by 455SD »

Just wondering how the higher mileage AWD's are holding up. What are the known problem areas to check and how do you confirm condition of the AWD without snow? Car has about 170,000 miles and this is getting into the questionable area for the some of the components on a car. Need a good winter work car. Hate to spend several thousand dollars, just to end up spending a couple more to keep it going. Thanks in advance!

MY 03 AWD has 156,000 now. I've had a air bag light on now for a year, something about a short and or open on both bags. Needs new rotors and brakes all around. But runs great, and is fantastic in snow. Cant drive in snow thats over 10 or 12 inches though or starts to bottom out. Trany takes a few minutes to warm up these days. Won't lock into overdrive untill gets warm.Have had no issues other than normal ware and tare.

i've seen a few of the diffs start weeping fluid as the miles got up there. It would be a good thing to check. About 8 months ago i looked at a 04 AWD with 246,000 miles on it. The thing ran fantastic and it honestly looked good mechanically as well as the price. A mother owned and with at least 1 or 2 kids and the interior was annihilated from the kid so i passed on it. If i felt like gutting the interior i would have bought it in a heartbeat.

Thanks for the feedback all! Really interested in getting into one of these. The 2wd just doesn't give me the traction I need getting up the steep grades around here......like my driveway;)

We often drive from Columbus, OH to Wilmington, NC. The Ripley Bob Evans is a traditional stop for us, especially going.
