Axle Back Straight/Dump

Post by BLACKEDOUTVIB »

So today in autos class, in exactly 4 hours, i will be taking off the huge A$$ stock muffler on my 04 Vibe 5spd... Im just gonna unbolt the exhaust right in front of back axle and take off the hanger and see how it sounds...if its to loud and annoying i will take it around for prolly couple days and put it back on next week.So all the guys going to Illinois meet this weekend, you may see this if i go!!!!What do you guys think? Bad idea? good idea? Interested in the sound?

a motor as small as the Vibe engine with only 4 pistons does not sound good at all with the harmonics it produces. Most bigger engines with better harmonics and more pistons sound "better" but overall it creates terrible drone, it is overly loud and obnoxious to everyone around you.I honestly don't think it would be a good idea at all.

You'll know what i am talking about after you bomb around on it for a few minutes. It is far from pleasant although you may get a chuckle out of it at first. I'm still in my 20's so this isn't coming from some crotchety old guy who hates noise. One ride to the super market and the looks you'll get and the annoying sound ringing in your ears will tell you what must be done.I do bowl every few years but the nickname came from high school and has stuck for those that knew me back then.

I heard a sound clip once on youtube - can't remember if it was Vibe, Matrix, Corolla or Camry but it was a 4-cyl w/o a muffler. I was surprised at how quiet it was, only when revving the heck out of it did it get loud and raspy.

Jeremy, it'll be a good idea until you get pulled over and get a ticket .I hope that doesn't happen tomorrow when you're out here in the Boonies where the cops have nothing better to do ...

Watch out with those mufflers. I haven't touched exhaust since I had a muffler fall on my mouth, bust a tooth and split my lip wide open. The dentist bill was much higher than any possible savings from doing the work myself.
