will "60" tire give a better ride than "55"?

Post by debander »

I'm ready to replace my factory Goodyear 16" tires ( steel Rims) and am interested in a softer ride. I thought maybe a little taller tire would help - 205/60-16 instead of stock 205/55-16. I've also been told a lower speed rating would ride nicer.

you would have a slightly softer ride. You would also suffer in the handling department.

I have, also, read that some tire MFR's use a stiffer reinforced sidewall on tires have a 60+ sidewall, don't know which one's though. Just don't get run-flat tires, they are like having the Flintstonemobile's stone wheels.

I went to 60's 5 years ago and saw no difference at all. You need to be a street racer to notice. Plus the wheelwells fill in much better. The car looks foolish with 55's. Right now I'm running Fusion HRI's because I'm not rich. They do me quite well and are visually the biggest I bought so far. Three sets of 60's so far...117K miles. The original Conti's went 24K and bye bye.
