I'm hoping somebody can help me. My ac and heat wont work. I replaced the resistor pack, checked the motor its good, fuse aint blown, but the fan wont blow on ac or heat and the ac light wont light up .any suggestions would be appreciated.
Maybe it's the heater relay. It's located in a junction block above the glove compartment. See the first two posts in http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=6403 to see how to find/access it. Looks like that relay should close whenever the fan speed is set to anything other than off, and it may be that relay also provides the power to the AC on/off switch.
The circuit is fairly straightforward. Setting the fan control to anything other than off puts a ground to the heater relay, which should cause it to close. The output of the heater relay goes to one side of the blower motor. The other side of the blower motor goes to the blower resistor. The fan control switch also selects where in the resistor pack to put a ground. The farther away from the blower, the more resistance, the lower the speed. THe pwoer for the heater relay comes from the gague fuse. If that was blown, you'd have a lot more trouble than just the blower.I saw in your duplicate thread you said the switch, fuse, blower, and relay are all good. Doesn't leave much else, other than connectors and wires. I attached the wiring diagram from a Matrix service manual, should be close enough to the Vibe for you to be able to start looking at each step with a multimeter to see see where the disconnect is.If you take the connector off the control switch and put a ground on the line going back to the heater relay, does the relay click?
thanks for the diagram ill try to track it down now yes the relay clicks even when u turn the switch on and off.somebody else said there was a control module between the switch and the fan that could have died but i dont see any under the dash anywhere.
There are users, and there are members. Users come and use, members stay and help. Time will tell if hazard37 is a user or a member. There have been a number of users, it is frustrating, because one of the reasons I try to help is that it's like a game, a riddle, a logic puzzle, and I also implement a learning algoroithm, where one puzzle's solution gets added to the info used for the next one. Spending time on a puzzle, then just told to nevermind kills the fun.It could be that haz was a basic user, got the info, moved on. If so, well I've got the appetite and memory of an elephant, so we'll see what happens the next time he has a question for us.It could be that he doesn't want to reveal the cause. This happens from time to time, people ask questions, find out the answer was something really basic and are embarrassed to admit publicly what the problem was. Possible in this case, epecially if the problem turns out to be a bad fuse, that was previously sworn to be good, or some such thing. best to just admit it, but anyone who spent time on a different car forum would expect to get flamed , as a new user probably doesn't know that's not what we'd do. Could be that like many of us, haz is just busy, and hasn't had the opportunity to come back and close the loop. Maybe some personal circumstance has pre-empted time planned to talk to us. Happens to all of us, perfectly understandable. He did at least come back to say thanks and let us know the problem was fixed, so this is the option I'm hoping for. Time will tell.
Thank You, I had the exact same problem. Your diagram led me to the problem. The 40 amp feed fuse wasn't blown ,however when i pulled the fuse out it was charred. For some reason it must not have had a good connection and started arcing. None of the wiring seemed to be affected just the bottom side of the fuse. Thanks again.
I have a 2004 vibe and yhanks to you guys I was able to find my problem. Blower motor did not run at all and the a/c light would not come on.Problem was the connection at the heater relay located above the glove box. 1 of the connections was kind of charred and upon further investigation that connection was loose not making good contact with one of the leads from the relay. Bent connector over that the relay plugs into as to make a better contact turned fan on and tapped the relay and the fan turned on a/c light came on. Not sure how long this will last but I will run it for a while like this instead of spending the $50. or so for a new relay.
I was looking up this issue and wanted to re-visit it. I was posting about my brakes and it turns out my ac/heater fan died. I'm at work and only noticed when I went to lunch, so I have not checked fuses yet.when I turn the fan speed dial I go no air from vents, but I do see the ac light turn on and hear the compressor kick on.so I'm guessing it's just a fan fuse or fan died. It was workin fine this morning. I have attempted all speeds and modes and temps with same results.advise would be helpful when I get off and can check and buy fuses if needed.thanks in advance.*EDIT* I got back into my car after work and everything turned on fine. Not sure what the cause of it was, but I played with everything, turning it on and off and going from heat to cold and it all worked. May have been a fluke, but I guess something that I need to keep an eye on for future issues.
