Have a Wedding Coming Up Soon

Post by ou.grizzly »

Title pretty much explains it. God, organizing this and that has been the most stressful thing the last year I must say. People do not want to talk or compromise, only make demands and tend to forget who is getting married. Anyways, I have been running around all week trying to gather a guest book, toasting flutes, limo, tuxes, marriage license paperwork, picking and ordering a cake, cake server and knife, matching serving plate, wedding bands, and etc. On a side note, decisions on these things are amazingly complicated to have everything match. Current conquest was finding a wedding topper, darn thing has been sold out everywhere it seems. Well, found one and paid double, but think it was well worth it. Next challenge, so see if the bakery can reinforce the cake so this bad boy can sit on the top without causing harm. Darn thing weighs like 3 lbs. 5 inches wide at base, and 9 inches tall.

To reinforce a cake, the baker will put dowels inside the top layer, then frost over all of it. Make sure to tell your baker that you have a heavy topper, maybe bring it in and show them so they can design accordingly! It also helps to have a large base on a heavy topper to help distribute the weight.

PS We had probably the least stressful wedding planning possible, and it was still really stressful. I mostly just chilled and let the experts do their job, letting them know the colors and types of things I was interested in without too much micromanaging. The stressful part was fitting it in between TWO full time jobs.

Congrats man It'll all be worth the stress in the end!!!I too am tying the knot. But opting for the destination wedding in the Mayan Riveria, much to the dismay of many family members. Whatever, you can't please everyone and your happiness is what counts the most on that special day. So don't let other peoples demands get to you.

screw the family, screw the friends... elope to vegas... Hold a reception when you get back if you want to. LOLIt's funny, when my wife and I got married, I took care of most of the arrangments. Most women love things like that, but not mine.. She got her dress I got everything else.My wife and I got married in vegas. We can't wait to go back!

Yet, issue is the cake is tiered (pillars in between so roses can be placed in between the layers) and the baker last Monday warned me, do not get a heavy cake topper, or otherwise it will fall over. Well, I didn't realize this one was going to be SO heavy as I found out after the fact. The spacing will be something like this between each layer (square bottom and rest of the layers round) with the roses in betweenn, but I think under the pillars there are wooden dowels like you mentioned. Think I will be heading down there next week and talking to her a little more. I need to actually see (interesting how they stabilize them). Found this video on youtube and helped me understand it a little bit morehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZepqz4newg

I got married a year and a half ago. I wish I had allowed myself to enjoy it a bit more. My mom helped a TON. Had lots of great ideas. I just had to realize that it was about my husband and I... not everyone else. We didn't have too many people demanding things I just wanted everyone to have a good time, and that doesnt matter - all that mattered was that at the end of the day we are married and we had fun.CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Congrats!! Its so nice to see a guy interested in his wedding. I know if I ever got married to my boyfriend (although we are common law anyway so he's legally my hubby), he wouldn't care about any of this stuff.

it's very similar to my first wedding cake (which I LOVED). but no wedding topper. I just couldn't find one I liked. We had roses and candles.

Picture it standing about another 12-14 inches higher or so and then a 9 inch topper on top. That is an approximation on how tall the cake and everything will be (cake will be also on a square silver cake stand). As a matter of fact, it may get taller as more people are still being added. But I may keep it at 4 tiers and just have a sheet cake in the back to be cut up. We are going with white cake and raspberry mousse. As for the favours, we will be doing two of them. As the guests arrive, there will be a table in front of the doors with place cards for seating. They will be attached to bronze coloured wine stoppers with a maple leaf motif. We will be removing that "thank you" and attaching the place cards somehow. Not sure if the wine stopper will stay in the box or not. At the same time, we will have an additional individual favour at each individual seat. It will be prepackaged hot apple cider mix wrapped in a sleeve with our names, wedding day, and saying thank you. http://cgi.ebay.com/AUTUMN-FAL...71578Still need to find a place card and table card with a unique fall graphic, then have them printed up with our information, and shipped here.

congrats! reading this makes me sooo happy that we went with a simple wedding. A friend of ours is an internet pastor (legal in Ohio!) and he did the ceremony. Took place for free in a lovely park on the banks of the Ohio River. Just a few friends and family, and I think the most expensive thing I had to deal with was buying a red tie (we did a black and red theme). More power to ya for having the big shindig, I just can't imagine wanting all that stress

Lol..... I just wanted to have a big party. We'd decided to be together forever ages ago, so this was just a big expensive party! It actually made it easier because, rather than obsessing over details, I was like, "What will people actually care about? What will they remember?" Answer (for me): Food, Music, Fun... NOT centerpieces, flowers, decorations, etc. So I focused more on the former.Though we had a cool "take home gift" where we ordered custom champagne flutes with our custom wedding logo (no words or anything, just the neat graphic) filled with black and gold m&ms. I thought it would actually be useful. Your gift is also awesome and useful!!! Those are so much better than the weird monogrammed whatever you usually get at weddings.

I forgot to mention, the groom and ring bearer will be wearing a light silver vest and tie. The rest will be wearing a candy apple red tie and vest. Bridesmaid (only one) will be wearing a taupe coloured dress. I have thought about trying to do something "fun" and purchasing some Detroit Red Wing Silver Cuff Links.

I had enough people in real life telling me not to do it (not because we had a bad relationship - because 'he's a teacher and you willl be poor' etc. This coming from people that didn't REALLY know either of us... and we're HAPPILY married.) we didn't need more people doing the same thing.Love the cake topper and your favors btw very cute idea.Anyone can MAKE it work with anyone - as long as BOTH partners WANT it to work and WORK at it. I would like to thank everyone for their words of encouragement and opinions. Sometimes this topic can be a touchy subject due to people's past experiences. And to be honest, I can be a private person more or less, especially online. I was debating on sharing the information about the wedding as I do not want to seem selfish, deeming myself the center of attention, or to gloat.Reality is, a marriage is nothing to be taken lightly. A relationship and love espeically should is very serious. When you give your heart to someone, it creates vulnerability. That is where trust comes in and makes the fear go away as you can always rely on the other person to do their best and treat you with compassion/tenderness.

A relationship and love espeically should is very serious. When you give your heart to someone, it creates vulnerability. That is where trust comes in and makes the fear go away as you can always rely on the other person to do their best and treat you with compassion/tenderness. well said, sir! Wishing you and yours the best in life!

I knew you were joking 06pvibe... I was mostly responding to aklgt (sorry I don't know anyones names)... I still do that stuff to my girlfriends 'are you SURE' & 'I'll drive the getaway car if you change your mind' It lightens things up.Anyway, I can't wait to see pics of the wedding - if you are willing to share them!

no worries. some of us "old timers" have known each other for a long time... and have much history here (I especially). Sometimes, it's just not a good idea to make it quite so public.... for the future and in respect to the other person.I always wish my friends the best, no matter if I agree or disagree with the decision. It's ultimately their own and they will do as they wish. My friends know I will say something if I do disapprove, however because they are my friend, I will support their decision. However, that I'm sure is not the case here. Ou.grizzly seems to be a very methodical person from what I gather, and probably has weighed the pros and cons of this huge life changing decision. I have every confidence that he is making the right one.

Grizz, I wish you all the best. I've been through a divorce and thought I would never get married again, but I found the right woman and we are about to celebrate our 5th anniversary. CONGRATS! I'm excited that you getting married.

Since she is not into cars at all and I do all the work and "mods" to it, I represent our car here, and am happy to do so. :D Now you know @ least one persons real name here. :D Nice to meet you. I can see where you were coming from now. When I first read your post (after reading AKLGT's) it seemed to me as if you were agreeing and I didn't want it to get out of hand and have 20 more people jump on the bandwagon. I've seen that happen too many times before. 'Sorry to misconstrue your meaning. What you said about lightening up the mood... Yes, marriage is more often than not a tough business and that it takes a whole lot of hard work and compromise. I think it's safe to say that most people who have been married have asked themselves at one time or another, "Is this really worth it?" I know I have. So yes, humor helps lighten up the reality. And after all, what I posted is not exactly an original thought. In fact from my experience it's pretty much the std question @ bachelor parties, and probably bachelorette parties too. If the bride and groom aren't stressing out then (traditionally held the night before the wedding) they never will be. As far as the rest... I was not trying to wish Grizz bad luck, or cause a rift, and I don't think HPL was either. It's just where the conversation took us.'Sorry if this is/was upsetting to you Grizz. That was not my intent at all. HPL: I too would like to know how you are plan on keeping your home from getting torn up w/a child (and later, his friends) in the house? (Good question, futureviber.)
