Radio display bulb burned out

Post by mntn-biker »

Attached is a picture of my radio display. This weekend a bulb possibly burned out on the left side since I cannot see the time or radio station during the daylight and it is very faint at night now. Has anyone had theirs apart and know if it is a bulb that can be replaced easily? Thanks - Mike

I've actually had this same problem with mine after I bought it. There are 3 bulbs behind the display as you can see in the attached image. I got replacement bulbs from RadioShack however they do require to be soldered in. If you are good a soldering this will be a quick and easy fix.http://www.radioshack.com/prod...04023 They are smaller than what is in the Radio but they work just the same. After you remove the radio from the dash you want to carefully pull the 2 knobs straight off. After removing them you now want to carefully unsnap the front plastic cover. After removing the cover there are 2 small wire harnesses that will need to be disconnected from inside the radio. Once those are disconnected you will be able to unscrew the circuit board from the face of the radio. Once you’ve removed the circuit board there are 4 metal tabs on the back of the circuit board on the other side of the display that you will have to straighten in order to take the screen off to expose the bulbs. From this point on is pretty self explanatory. I would recommend removing the little rubber covers from the factory bulbs and slip them over the new ones so the bulbs aren’t too bright. They don’t fit snug so when you get the new ones soldered in then bend them downward just like the stock ones were. This will hold the rubber covers in place. I hope this all makes sense…I typed it up kinda quick…..LOL
