How the heck do you remove 2009 Tail lights?

Post by smk9592 »

Ok. So I managed to trash my driver's side tail light. I want to replace it myself but I will be darned if I can figure out how to get the assembly off. I can only find two bolts to remove and the light becomes a bit loose but I think I am missing a bolt somewhere. I have looked all over the back of both tail lights and I cannot for the life of me figure out what I am missing. Any help will be appreciated !

I own the three BIG book Service manual for the 2009 Vibe. There are three nuts to remove. I assume you can see them from the access openings. There are drawings and instructions of how to remove the tail lamp assembly. The drawings are hard for me to read. It is like an X-ray view through the rear plastic. Disconnect the electrical connector Disengage the clamp (on the wire harness) Remove the three nuts (It should look like a triangle pattern) Two nuts on the top and one nut near the bottom. Disengage the guide ( clip thing) and remove the tail lamp assembly.I could scan and PDF the pages for you, but I think it would be better to see the real thing. When you find the last nut, it should be easly.

I went out to look for myself for the three nuts. I could not see the last nut at first. But if you take a look at the passenger side tail light, you will see a WHITE plastic clamp that holds the wire harness to the shaft of the bolt. That is where the third nut is under. That is why you must remove the wire harness out of the way. It looks hard to get at that driver side nut with the interior gray plastic in the way.

I too could use such a publication. Carrie, the link you sent doesn't describe the manual as being THREE separate books. Just curious if this is the ONLY, or BEST service manual for us Vibe owners. Also $150.00 is a bit pricey so it better have EVERYTHING imaginable about the Vibe

To my knowledge, that is the only place to get the service manual. I found the information for that site in the owner's manual. You can get the service manual on eBay on a CD-ROM for $30.00, but obviously you wouldn't be able to have the CD-ROM in the garage with you while working on the car so that would be kind of goofy to have in my opinion .

Are you saying that no one on this site bothers to purchase a Service Manual for their new car???Go to... http://www.helminc.com ...for the official service manuals and other good stuff. Helm publishes manuals for nearly all manufactures. You will not finds these books at the auto parts stores.YEs it is three big phone book thick books JUST for the 2009-2010 VIBE only. When stacked high, it comes to about 6 inches thick. Total cost is $150.00. it has a lot of written material and drawing details. What I don't like about it, is it does not have a single photograph of anything. You can also buy the Owner's manual and car accessories.I just check Helm and they still have it in stock.Where is the original guy with the Tail Light question?

Thanks for the advice! I did eye up that little white clip, but thought "No they would not put it behind such a big important-looking wire". I guess I will make another go at it. I am usually very good at the disassembly part. I kept my last car running for 11 years with cable ties and laboratory tape...I guess I am just not used to nice things since I managed to break the car already (still has dealer plates). Maybe I should just play stupid girl (not that tough for me) get one of my brothers to help out...

So you just bought the Vibe, New or Used? Please be very careful about your rear view and even the view over the front hood. I can not see very good out the rear. There is a major blind spot toward the passenger's rear side. With the front view, I can not see the outter edges of the hood and the front corners. Adjust the seat height and all your side mirrors so as to see away from the rear corners. In other words, to see the cars on your left and right lanes. I also adjusted the right side mirror so that I can see down to the curb line. I wish all OEM side mirrors could see down as well as to the rear side at the same time. Good luck with the repair. remember the "clip thing" when removing the unit. I don't know what it is.

$30 Vibe CD

Post by Bikerscum »

Anyone buy one of these? Is it the $400 GM CD? I bought one on ebay a while back for my 2002 Mustang GT... it was the real factory CD..... awesome. As for CD vs paper, ALWAYS go with CD. You can print paper to take to the repair, AND the CD has hot links in a repair section to take you directly to a subsection. Click there, get the info you need, click back, etc. etc.

I got my Vibe used...It is the Base with the 2.4L engine. I got a good deal but it was like pulling teeth. The saleslady did not know one thing about the car and I had to have them look up the VIN to confirm everything (she was wrong most of the time). I did read the reviews about the rear visibility, and it is tough in tight spaces. I immediately put small blindspot mirrors on the side mirrors. They help a lot but I was stupid in a small parking lot. I have purchased a rear view camera and will install it while I have my tail lights hanging out anyway. I have been thoroughly enjoying this site and I find it very helpful. You have all helped to return the pride to the humble and versatile hatchback! Thanks again!
