Dealer said my gas was siphoned. Would there be evidence?

Post by tahoan »

I was in a car accident. My fuel level sensor went out. I filled up with gas, approx 11.5 gal. About a day and a half and 40 miles later, I ran out of gas. The dealer said I must have made a mistake and It was actually $11.50. I told them even if I did put in 3 or 4 gallons, it would have lasted further than 40 miles. I double checked my bill, and it was almost $40. He said maybe the gas was siphoned. I do park in a public lot in a bad neighborhood, but, can they siphon the gas without my knowledge, or would they leave marks or break the door that goes over the gas cap? I am wondering if it is more likely a leak or a siphoning?I haven't been back to the dealership yet to verify if there are marks or not. Just want to know what I should look for, and if the dealer is full of it.Thanks.Tahoan2005 AWD Vibe Neptune Blue

Did they pressurize your fuel lines to see if there is a leak?

If you leaked out 11 gallons of gas you would see or smell it!!! Look carefully around the gas door for forced entry signs. Maybe your car was unlocked and they just pulled the lever?
