Pontoyota met the back of a '98 Trans Sport. It looks fine, but the bumper rebar mount broke away from the body (into the frame rail), the rebar is bent, and the absorber is squashed. $1010+gst.
No kidding.I was pretty relieved until I got home and popped the hood! Her car had no damage, the shop just buffed the red paint off her bumper for no charge and sent her on her way.
bummer.mine sustained $838 in damage to the rear passenger side bumper, taillight assembly and rear quarterpanel when somebody recently rubbed up against me in a parking lot (i always park waaaaaay out. the one time i didn't...)off to the body shop tomorrow AM.
really? that much damage behind the bumper cover? glad i did mine myself they wanted to charge me $1300.00 i took it apart straightened out the metal bumper, my absorber wasn't compressed, and got a new upper and lower cover had them painted and still only paid $500 total to fix it.
Sorry to hear about your bumper.Mine's been scraped up for awhile too, but I'd infinitely rather spend $1,000 on power + handling mods, than bodywork on this car.

Got one last estimate, this time from a friend-of-a-friend's shop... they quoted 750, but then they offered a way lower cash deal so things are definitely looking up.I would do it myself (just have someone else paint a new or good used upper bumper) but it looks like the part that the rebar mounts to was actually welded to the frame. It's a square body-coloured tube section that slides into the larger square frame rail. Mine is pushed all the way into the frame, with about 1/4" between the bumper rebar and the frame rail.
