Has anyone damaged your Vibe and made a run for it?

Happened to me, I even have pictures.My friend and I were chilling at the lake, and I felt like it was a good day to shoot some pics of my Vibe because I never do. I was playing some tunes when some guy in his Nissan truck drove into the dirt parking lot going fifty and pulled one the most awe-inspiring donuts you'll ever see. Only problem was, he showered my car with rocks and dirt in the process, leaving the entire left side of my car a spotted disaster. I ran up to his truck and told him what he did. He denied it and proceeded to drive off (peeling out in his would-be great espcape). At this point, I hopped into my car with my buddy and we chased him down the highway/ lake road reaching the 100 mph mark for several miles before I caught up to him and his making the decision to pull over. So, he was drunk, and was military. And thankfully, the state trooper that pulled up just after I pulled him over didn't seem to mind that I had to speed to catch him. I heard later that his commanding officer was not pleased, and that my $3,000 repair charge was all on his insurance. Thank the lord for the pick-up in my GT Vibe. That's my story as I enter my first day on Genvibe.com. Hello all!

Ah, well, everyone here in Texas sure packs some time of weaponry, but they also have a fair understanding of what's lawful and what isn't. If there's anything this guy should have known about being transferred to SA Texas it's that we're all pretty crazy about our cars, also. He was a nice enough guy by the time I pulled him over, at least after he found out the state trooper was on his way. It was actually kind of funny when the cop showed up. The three of us were standing next to the car, and it looked as if he was one of us. To the cop's surprise he was the actual culprit. He was just standing there in a daze. I was lucky he was military I guess. He was very cooperative during the police report.

My bad, didn't mean to lump you in there, but it is certainly a fact to take into consideration in small towns. You never know with some people. As for Mr. out-of-stater, I'm sure after this run in with Texas authorities and a grumpy vibe owner will have him thinking about his actions in the future. Although he pulled a dumb move racing off like that, he was smart enough to not give us crap after his "capture." haha. Poor guy, he seemed nice enough. He just got stupid for a few minutes. As for Calvin, my Vibe. I'm sort of at a loss for later upgrades. I was going to get the tails smoked a little bit at the local body shop, but they informed me any type of obstructed visibility won't pass inspection. So that's out. There aren't many options for my headlights either, which I've wanted to change up. My buddy picked up some nice projector headlights for his Accord, and of course they don't sell anything like that for '09 vibes. Just HID kits I guess. The best I could do so far was just the tinting, a few decals and accents, and that car bra (both pieces not shown in pic.) Although I actually needed the car bra for trips from Dallas when the bugs awoke for spring. It'd be nice if anyone had any suggestions, :/

actually this was a little while back when it happened. I got on the ball when it came time to get it fixed, which was last month. It took about a week to fix, mostly the time being behind the labor of taking apart the car and working on each piece separately.I didn't take the time to take pictures, but there was rock damage all over both doors, the back window, front fender, bumper, and back pillar. It was really depressing to look at, so I didn't try to think about it, lol.

IMHO, it's only asking for trouble in the long run.I go to work in the dark, and a week or so ago I came up behind a Charger, but before had to wonder what those dimly glowing red lights were ahead of me. It was really hard to tell, even in pitch blackness. One day, if he's not so lucky, he will get rear-ended like a friend of mine did because of his tinted tails and side reflectors.Texas, and many other states too, have gotten strict about tinted lights and windows. Too many policemen being blind-sided on routine stops I'm sure.Anyway, about your options: http://www.lamin-x.com has (flexible) film designed for lights, and it comes in colors. http://www.lamin-x.com/Pontiac...4.htm The blue and yellow will not affect the usable light output and "should" pass inspection. I know ours does (see my sig pic.) Or simply get the clear to help protect your lenses from the sun/UV rays and stone chips. It's worth every penny, imo. Also, you can talk to a fellow member here, keithvibe, about HID projectors. He offers DIY kits or will do yours by sending him the lights. You will likely have to live w/o the car for a few days that way though. Or, install some Philip X-Tremes, what a lot of us are running here. They do offer a better light than the OE halogens, and so far no downside to them either.

Welcome to GenVibe!!! Just remember, all the money spent on mods could be used for gas so you can take pics of the Vibe in diffrent surroundings... like Cannon Beach on the Oregon coast... Yosemite... Vegas... British Columbia...

Welcome fellow Texan, as for the tinting tails, i had a set on my old vibe and went through inspection once, one of the valvoline stations in town, and passed it no problem.

It gets so unbelievable dark, if anything I need to be thinking about brightening up my surroundings and signals rather than darkening them, so I'm glad I passed on that. Thanks for all of these suggestions! I tried the overlays on my tails for a little while, but the tint was so awkward I decided to get rid of them. I still had a substantial amount of light coming through, I may have just gotten a low grade set. I haven't thought about the overlays for the headlights, and I like the way yours look. I think I'll shoot for what you were saying with the Philip X-tremes. I haven't looked those up yet, but that sounds promising. I just really don't want to screw up my wiring or blow anything messing with all the electrical aspects of my car, haha. So I'll definitely go for whatever is accepted to use here on Genvibe. I've got a friend who can definitely help with the actual installation, so it shouldn't be too bad of an idea. Thanks again for the suggestions! I'll look into these.

Hey thanks! I'm loving the community here! Oh I think he got charged for all kinds of things. Before I knew he was drunk, I had been reaching for my insurance card when the officer stopped me and pretty much told me the guy was trashed, and exchanging insurance wasn't necessary at that point. Yah, he also actually tried to tell Mr. Green, the agent, that he didn't do anything at all, and then Green read him my statement, which was rather detailed.

I heard from the body shop that the Texas DPS cracked down veeeery recently and outlawed any type of blocked output. These guys were the ones tinting all the tails here in SA, and they were having to go back and replace hundreds of sets of lights because of this stuff. :/I still think they look pretty stylish, but I'm not going to mess with it even if there is some kind of catch.

Good thing you caught up with that guy and him paying for it! Someone had backed into my front while I was parked outside and my front bumper was popped out and hanging. My driver side headlight was aimed kinda low too so it must be quite a hit...unfortunately I don't know who hit mine =/ Good thing my car's black so it kinda hides the scuff marks lol
