Irratic idle on 03 GT

Post by WD0AFQ »

My 03 GT will not idle properly. It is very irratic. Mostly 2 grand and above. What is in that box that I might work on? The cable is fine. Sometimes the throttle body hangs shut so I have to put excessive pressure on it.Thanks.Dan

Well, I got the cover off the box. The two cables come together there on pulley. When I hit the throttle, that cable works the one going to the throttle body. Have lubed them to death. Still sticking. I can not figure out what my problem is. Took both cables loose, both work freely. Must be in the throttle body itself. I asked the local "Pontiac" shop foreman. He had no clue. MAybe someone on the Toyota forum has had this problem.Dan

Does the TB move freely when the cables are detached? Is there a sensor on the non-cable side?

Yes, it moves freely. I will look but I think there is a sensor on the non cable side. I cleaned the throttle body today and I think I made it worse. I will look tomorrow and make sure about that sensor. What do you think? IT is not throwing any codes. Thanks,Dan

I was thinking that the TB was sticking open slightly or had some freeplay when the throttle was fully released. Or perhaps the sensor was loose or there was freeplay where it attaches to the TB.

Ok, thanks. The throttle body does stick open but the cables are not causing it. I can "pop" the acellerator pedal and it will idle back down.dan
