Who should work on my car?

Post by daisy55555 »

Hello everyone. I am new owner of 2008 Vibe and need to have a full inspection (purchased car from a friend's mechanic who bought it at auction). Not sure if I should go to Pontiac or Toyota dealer for initial inspection or just take it to local, very reliable mechanic. I'm afraid dealer will scare me with unnecessary issues-plus expensive. I saw someone mention Toyota dealer mechanic will know how to diagnose car better and use appropriate fluids etc for regular maintenance because of Toyota parts. I also have question about repair of stone chips on hood but I guess that should be posted else where. Thanks so much!

For a simple inspection just take it to your local mr. reliable mechanic! As for stone chips, you'll need some touch up paint.... but our paint chips easily (even on the new models). How much winter do you guys get there (do you get winter)?Welcome to GenVibe!!!

Thanks for quick response. I figured regular reliable mechanic would be fine.

Welcome to GenVibe!I second the reliable mechanic as a first choice. If there is any GM/ Pontiac factory warranty remaining (3 years/36,000 miles from date of original purchase), you should take your car to a (now former) Pontiac dealer if you have warranty issues or recalls. Even though the engine and transmission are Toyota, the Toyota dealers cannot do 'warranty' repairs or recalls.
