I want to replace the factory amp using the existing wiring harness. Is it possible? I replaced the HU with an aftermarket Pioneer and used an adaptor plug to match the factory plug and everything works fine with the factory amp in place. Now, I want to run RCA fitted cables from the new HU to a new amp in place of the OEM amp. Can I just run the speaker out connections of the new amp to match the 2 wiring harnesses that are plugged into the oem amp? This is on a 2004 Vibe with the six speaker M&T package.
It is possible to do it this way however I would reccommend against it. If you do it this way, you'll need to get some special little boxes (can't remember the real name) that basically you put the speaker wire in one side and RCA comes in the other side. You can wire them up directly but you'll get loud pops in your speakers and it will probably annoy you quite a bit. What I did with my 2004 with that same package is run some RCA cables from the head unit to an amp mounted wherever you choose to mount it. I mounted mine under the passenger seat. Also it is possible to use the factory power and ground but again I would not recommend it since your new amp will most likely draw much more power and could cause some melted wires/ blown fuses/ car on fire.If you want to get really motivated you can do what audiovibe did and go all out. I would at least recommend looking at his setup to get some ideas how to run wires better. http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=37070
I did exactly like you did. I ran RCA's to the new amp that is located under the passanger seat. I also ran a new fused power line from the battery to the new amp as well. What I am really asking about is the speaker connections. Did you run all new from under the seat connected to the new amp or did you tap into the wiring harness that attached to the original oem amp?
Yes you can use those same speaker connections but I elected to just run my own speaker wire (of a larger guage) since that's what I felt like doing. I'm not really sure if it made any difference but it did make me feel good. So if you don't want to spend the time running new wires, you can just tap into the stock wires and they will probably be good enough. I would say to just do that for now and if you aren't happy with the sound quality, they you could upgrade the speaker wires.
