"Hard-wiring an AUX device", 2010 Update

Post by jsmellie »

I've been reading this board off and on for years, but never made an account to post with until today. I do LOTS of cross-country driving, so I've finally decided to add an AUX input to my factory HU, but I'm really stuck. I've read every thread on this board discussing the topic (including the one stickied at the top), but all of the posts are 3+ years old. Available products have changed a lot since 2007, and I need help finding and selecting (and maybe installing?) a device that will work for my car. Most of the products mentioned in the original thread are no longer for sale.To reference the sticky thread, I have a (C1): 2005 single CD (w/ BAND button and CD/AUX button) base system. I haven't decided what kind of system I want (iPod cable vs. 3.5mm cable vs. 3.5mm jack) because I wanted to see what my options are, and find out if there are any differences.I use a 2nd-gen iPod Touch. Is there a difference in audio quality between the headphone jack and the dock on the bottom? I assume the dock is either just as good or is higher quality. My pefect system would include: an iPod cable that plays music and charges the iPod, and either a 3.5mm cable or the ability to add a 3.5mm jack to my dashboard like this. (If I can have any level of control over the iPod through the stereo controls, that's even better.) I know Neo's ProLink (the replacement for the iOn) does this, but it's $150 and I don't know if it works with the Vibe or not. Here's what I've been looking at so far (though I don't understand the differences between most of them):iSimple PXDPiSimple ISGM73iSimple PXDXiSimple PXDXKD (the PXDX with the Vibe harnesses?) PAC Aux-Box PAC iPAC-OEMNeo iPod ProLink (Doing "Find Your Vehicle" still shows the old iOn product, not the ProLink.)What do you think, folks? What should I do next? I'm in over my head here.

I know I had a hard time finding a AUX option for my 2009 Vibe, but after talking to a crutchfield advisor that actually knew a thing or two (Never actually bought something from them) he found that they carried an Ipod adapter that plugged into the XM harness and allow for full control of the ipod from the HU. Maybe you can find something similar.- Josh
