Oil in intake manifold 2zz

Post by Herb »

When I was fiddling around with my CAI yesterday I decided to take a look through the throttle into the intake manifold and noticed that there was maybe 2-3 tablespoons of oil inside. Is this something I should be concerned about?

This will happen over time. At some point you might want to clean it out and invest in an Oil Catch Can.

yep that will lead to sludge build up... clean it out as best as possible and get a catch can installed. But BC already beat me to the answer.

I forgot about cleaning it out. I'll have to wait until next weekend or so before I'll have time to tackle it. It's kinda tough to reach in because I have to hold the throttle plate open with one hand.I do run synthetic, so I'm assuming that sludge is less of an issue, and I didn't see anything that looked like buildup. I've almost got 90,000 km on it nowAs for oil catch cans, any recommendations?

the sludge will be on your intake valves. You wouldn't see it by looking threw the TB.some will argue this about the catch can. But IMO grab yourself a catch can that you totaly open and fill it up with steelwool. Any cheap ebay canister will do.Some will tell you No you must have a name brand one so it doesn't leak.If you wanted a name brand one I do have a cusco catch can that I can sell to you.IM me if your interested

I'm going to hold off on the oil catch can temporarily. Alot of things are going to be up in the air when the DD Performance short runner intake manifold is completed. For the time being, I've decided to clean the oil that's in the manifold. Would be best to get a pair of long needle nose pliers next time I try this. I shoved a sheet of paper towel to soak up the oil, but trying to get it out was a task unto itself. I managed to get it out by reaching in with a hack saw blade
