Finally....

Post by msmyer »

UPDATE from http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=4020 The dealership called me Tuesday morning, and they said that they had my touch-up paint finally! Well after lunch I took a ride down there! I walked into the body shop and the body shop manager gave me the bottle! I ASKED her is this the right color? She said, “You have the grey right?” I quickly replied “Yep!” Well, assuming that she knew what she was talking about I went home! I got home and opened the bottle! NOTHING BUT SATELLITE! So I went back down there and told her that it was the wrong color! My luck, I didn’t drive, my buddy did! So I didn’t have my car there! She said, “ Well, I need the paint code from your glove box, the color shadow, won’t help me!” Keep in mind she said this very short and snippy! “ I asked her “Is there some sort of book with the colors?” She said “NO!” By this time it was 20 til 5 and the shop closed at 5! Then, she went and got the “painter” to get his opinion! They asked me to bring my car back today (Wed) and they would get the code! Well today I went in there and before I got out of my car the manager yelled for the “painter”! I wrote the number down for him and then he double checked it! Then he checked to see if they had any already!.....OF course, NO! So my patience growing very minimal, he agreed to mix it up for me! About 15 mintues later he came out with a small bottle of paint! This is a perfect example of why I hate the dealership I bought my car from! POOR SERVICE! See.... http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=5148

The color of the bottle is the color of the paint inside...In case you didn't realize that...But that totally sucks...

That sucks. Couldn't they pull the color code off another Vibe on the lot, or do they all differ? Couldn't you just have called the code in to her and not gone back until it was in? How frustrating. The touch up paint was the ONLY thing that my dealer was able to hook me up with quickly..but I think that's because I got it from the parts guys and not the service guys.

when I got my touch up paint, the parts guy had no problem finding a color code for my car, and got it for me in about a week.... little problem though, when I applied it, it was the right color, UNTIL IT DRIED!!!!

So, with this touch-up paint... do we simply apply the paint over the scratched area?Or do we need primer, coating, etc ?I am looking to buy a bottle for my Frosty Vibe.thanks

Nah, just apply it...It's designed to be applied without primer or anything -- hence the term "touch-up" paint...However, I'm debating getting this: CALIFORNIA GOLD® PAINT CHIP REPAIRLet’s face it—no matter where you drive, chips happen. Rocks and road debris can pit your paint’s surface, creating unsightly marks and leaving your car vulnerable to rust and corrosion. Touch up paints can vastly improve the appearance of your vehicle, but tend to leave behind “blobs” of paint. Mothers®’ new Paint Chip Repair—used in conjunction with matching touch up paint—will remove those blobs, leaving the surface perfectly smooth and looking like new.#08540, Chip Repair Kit.Claims to help you touchup without the globbing or nasty effects you get by just using touchup alone.Anyone able to determine if it's worth my money or not? I know mother's makes good stuff...

I've spent last week learning about automotive paint. I had the interior panels repainted professionally. the reason why your paint dried a different color is that the paint itself, when dry, is dull and a little darker. the heavy clear coat or hard coat draws the light from the sun and makes it that nice and glossy finish. touch up paint is just that, for small areas to reapply color. to make it look nice and mint, you have to lightly sand, spray, and apply clear. if the paint is scratched too deep, the new paint will react and cause a bubbling affect that is quite ugly. there's a lot more to painting than i thought. quite interesting actually.

When I got my touch-up paint, they just asked me what color my car was and which Vibe I had, then refrenced it off a chart they had. Then the guy told me it wouldn't match unless I got the clear coat as well. See why I like the parts guys way better than the service guys?!?! Anyway, I used it and suck at it and have those little raised blobs, so I'd totally buy the Mother's stuff if anyone can verify it works. If no one has used it, I'll volunteer to be the guinea pig I suppose. Can I just get it online?
