Peeling Tint

Post by cptnsolo77 »

This will be the 3rd year I have owned my Vibe, but the tint on the front pass & driver side is begining to peel off. Its peeling where the top of the door panel and window meet. Is there any adhesive that I can use to "glue" it back? I dont really have any time to retint my windows. Just need a temp repair for now. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. Ill tape it if I have to!!!!

How far "down" the window has it lost its adhesion? If it's very little/minor, you might be able to take a sharp exacto blade and cut it. I just don't know of any glue/adhesive product that you could use that wouldn't end up quickly failing again. Perhaps by trimming the portion of tint in question, the top of the tint will no longer "meet" the seal at the top of the door and stay on the window. Maybe whomever installed it let the tint end too close to the edge of the glass originally?

Yeah thats what I wanted to do originally, but I waited too long. My fault...now I would have to trim about a inch from the top of the door panel lol.

I know you don't want to, but... I'd get them redone. You'll miss them without it, and taping will only get irritating and not look good at all. How long ago did you get the job done? Do they have a guarantee? I guess 3 years is too long...

I bought it from a used car dealer, so I have no idea who tinted them.

How's the condition of the remaining pieces throughout the car? Er, wagon. Compact sport utility? WHATEVER it is we call these things we own! Maybe if there are other windows not looking so good, you might want to have it redone. Shops might charge a higher rate "per window" or a la carte vs. doing the whole car again. If there's other tint peeling, maybe that's the way to go.

Quote, originally posted by keithvibe »clear nailpolishNever heard that one, but anything better than what you got i suppose. Try it out.I was gonna say what jkm311 said. Cut it just below where it's peeling. It'll be a temporary bother til you fix it, but shouldn't peel anymore.

Would just cut off where its peeling. Re-gluing it won't look good at all.

Cut it where it is peeling, get some window tint strips and retint what you cut off. Overlap the original tint slightly and use it as a guide to trim the new tint. If done right you wont notice at a glance, but you will see the line if you look close.

Appreciate the advice guys! I like your idea audiovibe cause I really dont want to spend money on retinting. Sounds like a simple & effective fix. Where can I get window tint strips??? Also how do I find out what % tint I have so I can match the window strips??? Thx again!
