Total newb here M&T Amp bypass

Post by b.bcalhoon »

Okay, I have the 2003 Vibe with the factory hu and amp. The front drivers side stock tweeter went out, so I decided to replace the front component speakers and tweeters with Alpine SPS-600c. Using the factory wiring I spliced in the woofers and ran the tweeters thru the woofer as the diagram suggested on the box. Turned it on and had audio with a chirping sound for a few minutes then nothing from the woofers in both the front and rear doors. So I went and spoke with the guy at best buy and was told that I would need to replace the hu and bypass the amp which would be the cheapest fix. So I purchased a JVC KW-XR810 hu and a metra 70-2003 wiring harness and antenna adapter. Is there anything I'm missing? The new hu has RCA connections on the back so how would I do this? Do I splice the wires at the amp???? Any and all help would be appreciated. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

To bypass the Factory amplifier the easy way you would need Metra harness 70-2056. The harness Best Buy gave you will still utilize the factory amplifier for power, you will however need to buy a line level converter such as the Scosche SLC4 to level match the radios high level outputs (speaker outputs) to the factory amplifier input. This will stop any potential hissing from occurring. If you are interested in buying the Metra 70-2056 harness a member of the Forums has one for sale http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=41265
Vibe is gone and will be missed as I've gone country style

Okay if I do the Metra harness 70-2056 would I need to run the wires under the dash then down to the amp? Any pics of the install would be great. Another question would there be any problems with the rear speakers as they are still stock speakers? I don't want to blow my new HU.

Any pics of the install would be great. The Metra 70-2056 Harness:The factory amp has two harnesses that connect to it. The 70-2056 connects those harnesses allowing you to bypass the factory amp. The alternative would be to splice the wires from one harness to another underneath the passenger seat. You will want to use this harness if you are using the factory speaker wires, but do not want to use the factory amp.The Scosche SLC-4:Can be used in a variety of ways depending on your system setup. You do not need this if you are bypassing the factory amp as described above. However, if you want to use the new HU with the factory amp then you want to "insert" this between the HU and vehicle harness in the dash. In that case you do not need the Metra 70-2056. Here is the instruction manual (look at illustration D)...http://www.scosche.com/ecom/do...g.pdf
