Quote, originally posted by A Psycho Martyr »yup....Wally WorldBooooo- Hisssss. My company (H-E-B) here in Texas is in direct competition with Sam's-Mart, and to my surprise, we are winning!! They have tried to buy us out a few times in the past to no avail. Now they are trying to beat us in the grocery business. The last 6 months (2 quarters) showed our business up 3.5%, almost unheard of in this economy, while Sam's-Mart steadily declining and surprisingly hard too... I believe the figures I saw were that they are down -12% over last year @ this time and continue to decline. With regards to the working people, like you, I can't say I'm sorry about that. As a business, they have done too many sleazy things for too long, and continue to, all in the name of profit, imo.In my own home town area, and I think KeithVibe will back me up on this one since he still lives there, Wal-Mart has killed nearly all the other businesses in the greater area. People don't have too much choice but to shop there now.Even K-Mart which has been there a h*lla' lot longer is suffering in a big way. I always preferred them over WM for that kind of stuff anyway.I realize you guys are not really part of that and are just trying to do a job/collect a living wage, and I don't wish you or your coworkers any ill-will in that area, but I have no love for Wal-Mart and haven't for a long time.

Even though it's a few years old now and a few of these things may have changed (for the better or worse,) if you haven't seen this or weren't aware of it you might be interested: Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price (2005)http://www.amazon.com/Wal-Mart...l_dvd

The only thing I get from wallyworld is my meds, otherwise I wouldn't be able to aford them. The local WM to me stinks, and I go armed simply because of the lowlife dregs that hang there. lots of gang activity. I go out of my way to avoid them.

You mean the one up on 248? When we were in town we went there looking for my shampoo. Nothing special mind you, just Finesse. They didn't have it, in fact that whole area was torn up, holes everywhere, as was half the store!!I wasn't impressed. But most of the other grocery stores have closed down or barely keeping their heads above water because of that Wal-Mart!! There's no reason for that, imo., but they don't want anyone else to coexist where they are.

Of course they don't want any other business around.. Because.. Its business.. If you owned a store.. you would try to keep your prices down to compete and try to beat the other store.. Plus.. who wants to go all around town to get their goods.. when they can just get them all at one place.. And, around here, WM has the cheapest grocery prices of any of the other local stores.. and I'm talking like you can by the name brand cheaper than the other stores generic brand of stuff..

Yeah, I know. Allentown has gotten scary... REAL scary over the last 15-20yrs. Even the fast food joints close early.I didn't know you lived there though. I thought you lived in Bethlehem Township, or the greater Easton Area, like the West End, or something?Quote, originally posted by 09vGT »Of course they don't want any other business around.. Not for the company, the community or the consumer.#2 If I were Joe Schmo and had a little store and was competeing against another Joe Schmo, I might be worried and highly competitive. But Wal-Mart does it just to be Wal-Mart. Why should they worry about Joe Schmo, yet in every town they have ever infiltrated they have put the Joe's of the world out of business by reducing prices until he went out of business. Must we have only Wal-Mart approved products in our communities? Example: There used to be a little, old hardware store in Easton. You remember Miller's Hardware on Butler St @ 19th, Keith? The REAL old fashioned kind where you could find anything... even the weirdest pieces. He went out of business because he couldn't compete. All that old, well made and yes, that great old weird stuff you wouldn't find anywhere else is gone because of Wal-Mart & Home Depot. We are left w/a limited selection of cheap, Chinese made hardware in that town. Then when they (Wal-Mart) are one of the few places for people to work, they cut salaries and benefits to a minimum, all the while RAISING their prices ever so slightly and slowly. To me, that's just dirty business. Being evil for the sake of being evil. You can call it business if you like, but I don't like.

I mean.. I completely agree.. But.. From Wal-Mart.. like most other stores.. Target, K-Mart, etc point of view.. of course they will pride themselves in that.. But all we can do.. is not shop there.. thought that is highly unlikely for me.. But like I said before.. around HERE other stores items are EXTREMELY over priced.. may not be that way where you live.. but it is for sure here.. Even "discount" stores are over priced for what you get..

Even "discount" stores are over priced for what you get.. I'll second that... but I find that Superstore's prices are generally cheaper then Walmarx and both are much cheaper then safeway! Although none of them offer anything in decent hours/wages/benifits... Although in the summer, nothing beats the farmers market for fruit, veggies, eggs, and such!!!
