Tailgate sub

Post by careckner »

hey guys, has anyone tried dropping a sub into the tailgate? I have a 09 vibe so my tailgate is one piece, and I was thinking about dropping a pioneer 10" shallow sub in there, any ideas/concerns???

Without building a proper enclosure you will have a ton of resonance coming from the panel on the hatch and probably the hatch its self. If you wanted to put a sub in the rear hatch you should build an enclosure that replaces the interior hatch trim. The other issue you will run into would be the weight of the sub affecting the struts that hold open the hatch. It is a great Idea and one I have tossed around in the past, but it will only work out if its done right.
Vibe is gone and will be missed as I've gone country style

hmmmm, good point, since im putting in new components, in the front, and 3 ways in the back, and amping them, maybe I should just put a good pair of 6x9's in the tail, thatyll give me some better lows without needing a whole lot of work, maybe some mdf speaker rings behind the plastic trim.
