I got my 2009 radio replaced at the dealer because of the broken volume control knob. I had already cancelled my XM radio service a few months ago. However, XM turned it back on for the past two week to get me to reconsider. XM uses a Radio ID number from my radio. With a new replacement radio installed today, XM stopped sending the service. What I was concerned about was the radio ID number. Was it the same? I only learn today from seaching the internet, that to find my radio ID one must tune to XM 0. XM 1 is the preview channel. I nevered turn it back and didn't know of XM 0. So to check your radio ID turn the tuner knob back to zero. In a few seconds I founded out that the NEW radio now has my original ID number. I am now feeling better about that. But, what will happen to my old radio's ID stored in memory? Who programs it into a radio?Who gives a Radio ID number for XM?
I checked my service manual about the radio today. It said if you replace the OEM radio in the car, get the radio ID number on channel 0 and call XM radio (a phone number printed in the manual). I assumed that the service man did this. Also you must keep the car on for at least 30 min. outside of a building to activate the new radio. Onstar may be a different story. There is a separate modular unit with special ID number. This unit must remain in the car and not switched to another car.
'nuther lil quirk.... When they replaced my 09 M&T radio last week for the volume knob thing, my keyless remote quit working. The extra key/remote still worked fine. I tried the proceedure to reprogram it, but no go. Back to the dealer, a few minutes behind closed doors, all was well.
