Hi guys, originally i was going to keep the HU and just replace the amp but i can't find any information what so ever about wire colors(for the 2009) so I'm just going to replace the Head unit as well, After a few hours of frustrated searching i have failed to find all the info i need regarding:What Harness do I actually need, I do want to keep my ONSTAR. The only things i have been able to find are : Wiring diagrams for the PAC Audio Steering Wheel controls http://www.pac-audio.com/swixp...D=453 And the dash kit.As far as taking off door panels does any one have a guide or even pics of the process, i know this things use clips which sometimes are easily broken, i would like to avoid that. Thanks for any help guys.
Hi im sorry i cant help you with the whole harness thing but hopefully somebody can help since i too want to change my hu but keep onstar. As far as the door panels I have taken them off a couple of times the best way is to take the piece behind the door handle and theres a bolt there and the power windows piece and theres another bolt there also. Thats really the only thing holding the door panel after that it pops off pretty easy. I've had no problems with anything breaking.
You can see one near my hand. The other is down that hole at the rear of the door pull. Both are covered by the trim piece. Pry out the plastic piece behind the latch handle, and there is another screw. Reach down below the speaker, and you'll feel a gap that you can get your fingertips into. As long as you don't go into 'beast mode' you probably won't break anything. I've had my panels off several times with no adverse effects as of yet.
don't worry about the clips. I have had my panels off twice now and they haven't broken yet. Just be careful. The clips on the vibe are much stronger than the ones that were on my 97 malibu.
Thanks Guys, that helps a lot about the doors, on the other hand I still have not been able to find a harness at all for an 09, let alone one that will let me retain onstar. I'm assuming at least one person here has done it and knows the correct harness but all my searching has returned nothing, even the crutchfield advisor was clueless. I've done plenty of installs before just never one with onstar so I've never had this issue and such a lack of public info on a vehicles factory audio system.
I'm hoping someone answers this one also since the guys here in killeen can't help cause its not in there book and then they turn me away I was gonna go down to custom sounds in san antonio since they seemed a bit more helpful, and thats where i planned to get it installed also, you might want to try there. I'm planning on going down maybe this week
Metra gmos-lan-02 will retain onstar and work with the factory amp. I think I gave 50 bucks for mine on ebay. Someone talked about a gmos-100 that was good for Onstar and steering wheel controls, but I don't have experience with that one.
Ok, thanks for the info on the harness man, so correct me if I'm wrong, when i install the GMOS LAN 02 I'm gonna hook it up to my preamp outs for Front and Rear, then after the module i want to hit those wires so that the onstar audio is sent to my new amp. I usually only use harnesses for power if i even use one in my installs(almost always do an amp). And I'm fairly confident about wiring up the PAC SWI I found the diagram for the 09 its earlier in my post. I saw your post where you showed the JBL GTO 804 installed into the factory box and was wondering how long that took you to do. I like the stealth look but i don't know if that 8 will cut it for me. How much louder/clearer than the factory sub is it?. I'm thinking of doing it but the sub amp i have left over from my old car is 300 RMS @4 ohms so it might be a little much for that sub.To HarleyQuinn: I wouldn't recommend custom sounds I've heard too many mixed opinions, the only places in San Antonio that i have heard good stuff about is Daddy's Tint and Alarm on Huebner and Brothers Audio Sound on Bandera Road its between Poss and Huebner, but its your decision ultimately. I would call a few shops before i have it done. the only thing i let shops do is tint which i just got done at Brothers it looks nice, 32% in the front and 13% out back. Limo(4% there) was just a little too dark for night time driving. As soon as i get all my hardware together I will post some pictures of my install. I also just ordered a gallon of Edead V3 and 25 sqFT of thier V4 mat with the foam stuff on it. Gonna do the entire hatch area and then put the v 4 over both front and back wheel wells along with the v3 of course (I hate road noise). Will try to take some pics of that too.
You just have to splice your headunit's harness into the appropriate wires from the gmos lan 02, plug in the rca's and the connectors, and that's it IIRC. There's also a potentiometer to adjust the Onstar volume. The JBL sub was a drastic change. From the front seat, I couldn't even tell the factory sub was playing. You might be ok with that amp, just be careful with the gain.If you're looking for 150 dB, that sub isn't going to do it for you. You might get 120 dB, but if you push it hard with 300rms, it may not hold up.
