I think my sister is being taken for a ride...

Do any of you have a ballpark figure on what it would cost to replace ALL brake lines on a 1998 Olds Delta 88?

How much do they want to charge? And what do you mean by brake lines? If they want to replace all the hard lines, that would get expensive in a hurry. If they're talking about just the flexible lines, it shouldn't be too bad.

Houston,Are we talking OEM parts or lines that need to be bent manually and pieced together?

Since she's in Florida and far from me I really don't know what they want to do, other than replace all brake lines. What is your estimate for the absolute higest acceptable price for no matter how they do it? I appreciate your imput no matter what it is.

GM has a chronic problem with brake lines rusting and rotting away, leaking and causing brakes to fail.It is NOT unusual for this to happen, I have a 95 Sunfire right now that needs the rears replaced and I'm just running on borrowed time. It's a nasty job, every mounting nut, every connection is rusty and hard to come apart,,,,, if it even comes apart. It could take a good solid day of work if you do them all.Have her ask that the mechanic just install some unions and replace just the piece leaking right now. It will cost far less and buy her time but she needs to know that she is only putting off the inevitable.Yes, it is expensive, how much depends upon the shops rate and the amount of rust / aggravation incurred.Sorry but an exact price really can't be quoted for it is most often time and materials. Also brake line isn't cheap either and the fitting MUST be double flared brake quality and not the simple compression fitting or simple single flare we use on many other connections in our world. Her life depends upon this being done properly.IF I had to GUESS....... $400 - $600 dollars for the entire car. Add flexible lines to that figure and the bad wheel cylinders and calipers that they WILL find and the price will be pushing a grand. What $$ has she been quoted?? and to do what??It's also cheaper to leave the old crap on the car and just run new next to them but I don't recommend doing that, just bad practice. OK in an emergency but not a proper way to fix a car!!Dave
